Default SOLD - Collings DS2H ‘96 (12 Fret Dread)

I have put this Collings on Consignment at Gryphon Strings in Palo Alto, so no sale for now

I went into Gryphon Strings in Palo Alto CA. about 2 years ago wanting to check out the Martin CEO-7’s and I was overcome by this Collings DS2H. There is such a balanced tone to this guitar. I’m usually a Mahogany guy but this rosewood and spruce matched up to have such a wonderful tone. It has an excellent neck profile which I’ve heard has changed over the years. This has a nice subtle V to it.. Only reason I’m selling is I am gravitating to smaller guitars with smaller dimension necks. This is the standard Collings full scale with 1 13/16” at the nut and 2 5/16 at the saddle. Wonderful for both finger picking and strumming. There was a very small crack near the sound hole that was repaired by Frank Ford at Gryphon Strings. It’s been solid for me over the last 2 years.. It has a few nicks and scratch’s for over 20 years of life but nothing stands out.

It looks like there was a pickup installed at one time in it’s past. there are two small screw holes in the neck block and the end strap button is not original (see pic)

Open to trades.

Thanks so much
Joseph

I used to own a DS1A and have played a number of these body types from Collings. They do a great job with the 12-fret sloped-shouldered dreds. Good luck with sale. I'll bet this one is a sweetheart.

Thanks Trans. Yes, this is a sweetheart. I was not even considering one of these until I played this one. One thing that I’ve always been impressed with this guitar is how much you can effect the tone by the placement of your picking hand. Just subtle moves from the neck to the bridge are all quite rewarding.

This is where I am lucky to work every day. I am an Audio/Lightening Tech here at the Green Music Center at Sonoma State University. Quite an amazing Concert Hall

Default FS: Collings DS2H ‘96 (12 Fret Dread) Reduced $2250

That’s a very good question about the pick-up. I was about to reply because I know it does not have a pick-up in it. But I just got one of the fancy telescoping mirrors, so I thought I better look inside real good. It looks to me that there was a pickup of some kind once before I owned it. The neck block has two little screw holes that must have held a 9 volt battery. And after further examination, it looks like the end strap button is not original. I have updated the post with a pic

Thanks so much
Joseph
