Default Emerald June Select Series

The June Emerald Custom Shop Select Series collection features an X7, an X20, an X20 Lefty, an Amicus and a Chimaera, all featuring pinless bridges and vertical carbon fibre weave layout.

They are all done in black weave. I wonder how this "unidirectional" approach affects anything, if any.

As a Chimaera fan, I'm particularly curious about the electronics setup with controls in both soundholes. Sean, please share some details. Thanks.

I just got the e-mail, and had to check it out. I, too, wonder if the different alignment of the weave has any effect on the sound/tone. The black is classy (OK, I am partial), and I see besides the pinless bridge, they are all glossy. And, a lefty (for those of the left hand persuasion... I am ambidextrous: don't do things well with either hand).

Congrats Alistair and crew for this month's Select Series!

That pinless bridge must make string changes a breeze!

I see a problem here. Alistair has spoiled us with his veneers. I think it's going to take some pretty intense colorations to compete with the veneers.

I'm not suggesting that the black weave is not appealing or that the guitars featured are not stunning in play. Style is the last frontier in the field of Rhetoric, it is the icing on the cake--the veneers are icing. Yummmmm

Some of the veneers are quite striking, but a significant cost upgrade. If I am weighing the upcharge for a nice veneer vs a 2nd neck then the two-headed beastie is going to win every time.

I wonder how it works. Need you thread the string through the bottom of the guitar or does the ball at the end of the string go in the hole and grab on to something?

Good question. My guess is that the Emerald bridges are set up like the pinless Breedlove or Benetau ones but I could be wrong.

Hey studioman001 and everyone,

It certainly does! The ball ends of the strings easily hook into the holes on the pinless bridge, speeding up the string change for you a little.

As for the alignment of the carbon fibre - This was just something we thought we'd do for a change on this month's Select Series. The materials used and the building process are the exact same.

If anyone has any further questions, we are always here to answer them.

Best Wishes,

Sean

The electronics on the doubleneck is very interesting. Looks like switching between necks? Separate tone controls? And maybe a off and on switch? Help!

Horizontal Weave? Check. Pinless bridge? Check. Two thumbs up from me.

can you put that bridge on a 12 string. That's where one really needs a 'breezy' way to change strings.

Or 18 strings like on a Chimaera!

I would think it's possible on a 12.

for sure on the 6 side of a chimera. Me thinks the spacing on a 12 string bridge would be problematic. if they can do that the chimera should be a go.
