Just bought a Martin 0001xe. Quite like it

I was at several guitar stores this weekend looking for a guitar that I could bring to the beach and play at parties. Not a "beater" per se, something decent but don't have to worry about it getting abused.

Here is some of my experience with the $500ish guitars:

Yamaha's: FS, LS. They are nice but a bit bland

Breedlove Concert: $299-$799. Quite impressed actually. Modern, balanced are the words that come to mind. Not as funky looking as they used to.

Taylor GS Mini: Best travel guitar IMHO. But still sound like a small guitar

Little Martin: Interesting sound. Reminds me of a guitarlale

Martin Dreadnaught Junior: $699. I prefer it over the DX1 & DR2. This is the guitar I will buy if I have kids and they say they want a dread

Martin 0001xe: Played a few before that was mehh. The two I played at the shop was quite responsive and feel more in line with the standard series.
I have had HD28s, Taylors, and Eastmans over the years.
It's kindda embarrassing to say I like this jolly little fella as much as those mentioned above.

I bought new Martin Grand Performance X-series, and its perfect for what I need it for!

I've only played one 0001x and was very pleasantly surprised. Really fun guitar to play and sounded better than it should.

I had similar experience. Played a used 000xae at the local. I liked it so much I bought it. Great git for $350.
