A 1930s Regal-made Oahu. Snagged this one out of the back room of a small Mom & Pop store where they stash the stuff they take in on trade but do not think is worth taking up scarce wall space. $100 out the door. Ladder braced with a solid spruce top and flame maple body and a hard V neck. Had some bizarre hand-made top loading bridge on it when I found it which is now gone. Shows every mile put on it but a good player with a surprisingly big voice.

Maybe not cheap, but I'm starting to get enticed by the Martin Dread Jr.

Martin 00-18V , found it not used in a case from a widow who after 5 years was ready to sell it after her husband passed away. Case was new and so the guitar. Price i paid in The Netherlands was 1800 dollar... for Dutch standards that is real cheap. Great sound and easy to play... just love it and will never sell it.

My latest cheap deal was a 1974 Guild F50NT for $150. I posted about it here. http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...d.php?t=495922

In my case, it was the Alvarez baritone ABT601ESHB on the Musician's Friend sale. I even went back and ordered a case for it two weeks later. So far, so good....

A beat to death Sigma DM2. I paid too much so won't confess. It sounds pretty for an all laminate. A big section of fingerboard binding is missing, nut is cracked, and it's got about 2/32 of saddle left on the first string. Bought for novelty and repair experience. I'll fix it up, keep it for a month or two, and sell it for less than I paid for it.

I used to burn through expensive guitars. Now I look for cheapies that offer a learning experience.

With all of the discussion here about going smaller, I decided to go to my local GC and see why everyone is looking to buy smaller sized guitars.
I have played smaller guitars over the years but none of them ever spoke to me.
So I started with the smaller Martins in the OM size and while I liked some of them, the price was more than I wanted to pay.
Taylor was the same. Some nice guitars but the price was too high.

Next I tried a few Yamaha and Seagull smaller bodies.
They just don't have enough projection or bass for me.

I was about to leave the store when I noticed a lonely Washburn sitting all by itself. It was a bit smaller than a Dred and was a thing of beauty.
Wooden bound body and neck with Abalone in all the right places.
Rosewood Back and sides, just like I like.
I thought that it would be one of those all show and no go guitars.
Boy was I wrong!

To my ear, it was the best sounding smaller guitar in the store.
The model is HG 27SE.
I left the guitar there as I was not looking to buy at the time.
Went back home to look up specs for the guitar.
Nothing anywhere on the net for it.

I went back to GC and asked them what they knew about the guitar. I was told that it was a special order for Musicians Friend and was a limited run.
I took the guitar home with me this time.
The price was $399.99 inc pickup.

There will be no more of these guitars imported to the USA because of the Rosewood ban.
I'm happy that my timing was good and I got mine while they were still available.

Default 2017 Alvarez

Delta-00 for $300. Saw the sale price and jumped on it. Not afraid to use it in areas that my other acoustics would be *in-danger*

Not my most recent but the King of all el cheapo guitar finds. A late 1930s to early 1940s Regal jumbo 12 string. It was found sticking out of a trash can.

Mine would have to be my Martin DM. This thing just booms and sings. And I got it for $450 with a Martin Hardshell Case.

Paid $2200cad($1770usd) for my ceo7, it was used and only a year old when I bought it. Great condition. It goes for $3419cad($2750usd) new at the same store.

Paid $2599cad($2090usd) for my HD28vs a few months ago, and it was going for $4999 cad($4021usd) before it was discontinued. This ones about 12 years old, but in amazing shape.

I love Martin 15-series all mahogany guitars. I've cycled through several but always sold them off due to nut width. I wanted an all-mahogany OM style, preferably cheap enough to play on the patio and leave out there while I went in the house etc. Basically a campfire type guitar.

I picked up a solid top, laminated body Ibanez artwood AC240 mahogany guitar. The spec's are exactly what I wanted and it sounds great. Not perfect but great.

I got it in mint used condition for $180. Incredible deal.

Bought a used, nearly spotless, blonde, no-cutaway Epiphone EJ-200 for $350.

Replaced the saddle, nut, and pins with bone.

Installed an L. R. Bagg's M-80 sound-hole pickup.

Replaced the Epiphone pick guard with a genuine NOS Gibson SJ-200 pick guard.

Replaced truss rod cover with Gibson Custom Shop cover.

Replaced the machine heads with gold Gibson "lamp" heads.

Bought it a nice leather Gibson strap.

It sounds great (particularly amped), and is as close to a Gibson SJ-200 as I am ever likely to get. From stage distance, it's pretty much a ringer for Tom Petty's SJ-200.
