Arrow SOLD!!: Traphagen 12 fret 000 Braz/Italian spruce...**WOWSER!!**

SOLD!!-2015 Traphagen 12 Fret 000 Braz/Italian spruce

When you step into the "higher end" of custom guitars, you find builders that you were not aware of prior; Dake Traphagen is one of those. Dake is better known for his custom classical guitars which are played aroud the world, but he also builds some fine steel string acoustics. With nearly fifty years experience as a luthier, Traphagen guitars are cherished by players of all levels and styles world wide. From the concert stage to the home aficionado these instruments will please the most discerning player. Dake Traphagen is way under the radar for most of the crowd, but oh my is he among the top craftsmen worldwide!

The Woods:

Italian Spruce: Alpine/Italian Spruce is the exact same species of wood as our German Spruce, but it comes from a different region and has slightly different attributes. It is just a bit warmer in color and the winter grain, when visible, is a bit pinker. Tonally, it is said to be more focused with a slightly stronger fundamental than regular German Spruce. For this reason it has a loyal group of devotees. We typically have a good number of higher grade tops with very tight grain and even color.

Brazilian Rosewood: The "holy Grail"-Brazilian Rosewood, like other exploited hardwoods such as Cuban Mahogany or Teak, has earned worldwide fame. Historically, it has perhaps been the species most frequently associated with the term “Rosewood,” and with its strength, hardness, stability, beauty, and acoustic properties, it’s easy to see why it is so well loved and considered the premier guitar wood. At the time of this build, it was also his best remaining Brazilian set from an old reclaimed beam in Brazil.

Regarding the neck of this guitar, this is the last neck made from a very special lot of Honduran mahogany Dake got many years ago, the likes of which he said he cannot replace. Literally, all the bells and whistles. Larry Robinson's Fretboard inlay is fairly simple but stunning in person.

Specs:

Top: Italian Spruce
Back/Sides/Bridge/Bindings/Headplate: Old Growth Straight Grained Brazilian Rosewood
Neck: Honduran Mahogany
Tuners: Waverly
French Polish finish
Paua Abalone Inlay all around
Nut Width: 1 13/16"
String Spacing at Bridge: 2 5/16"
Action: 5/64" at low E and 2/32" at high E at 12th fret
Body length: 20 5/16"
Upper bout width: 10 7/8"
Lower bout width: 15"
Body depth: 4 1/8" - 3 3/8"
Upgraded: Ryan zip flex trim
EVO gold frets
Eastman custom travel case (very cool!!)

From Dake Traphagen: "I try to build each section of the guitar in such a way that all its parts work together, and the instrument becomes a unified expression. This, to me, is the art of luthiery. When a guitar becomes a "product", it ceases to be a true expression of musicality. To this day I find the guitars that inspire me the most are those made by some of the past masters: Torres, Esteso, Hernandez, Hauser, and Rodriquez. These guitars have definite personalities, unique voices, and most importantly, they are undeniably musical. These are the qualities that inspire me to keep building. For me, the true art of luthiery is creating a guitar that is first and foremost musical."

SOLD!! plus shipping and Paypal. I'm open to reasonble offers and trades where there is a large cash contribution.

I believe I, too have had a few guitars from that same beam. 150-200 years old.

I don't have any reasonable offers, would you consider two unreasonable offers?

Alan, I really don't want to take a trade unless I can generate quite a bit of cash flow with the trade. I know what kind of guitars you own, and certainly you have my email if you want to chat about any of yours. For the most part, I offer trades more as an accommodation than really looking for anything. Lord knows I have too many guitars as it is lol.

Thanks to all of you others who have made nice comments and to those who have already reached out by pm.

Lots of interest in this one! Someone will enjoy an amazing guitar .

Smile Yikes! Monster axe alert

From an angelic seller! And if palolowarrior wants it it MUST be a killer...

I doubt this will be here long.

Someone will be stoked!!!

I see some very cool resemblances to some of the late Guy Clark's similar steel strings w/classical bodies.

What a beauty

Cheers

Paul

I have a build on the bench with the same specs on the basic build. Sans the Brazilian.

However, I may have something in the closet.

Bill, yes thanks for asking. Another person asked that last night. It is standard scale length...approx 25 3/8

Also, another person asked to see a picture of the case. So, since I had to get it back out, I just put it on top of my truck bed, and man oh man it goes SOOOO good with my truck I may have to keep it after all ha!

Love listening to Dake's guitars when I can find them on line and they certainly are "wowser" quality beautiful. This one is no exception.

For one last steel string guitar I've been considering ordering a custom 12-fret 000 with a cutaway, shortscale, wide spacing at the nut and saddle, solid peghead, slightly larger frets, and with an ebony fingerboard, mahogany back and sides, and spruce top.

There's more features with this Traphagen 000 that do not match my specs than do, but this guitar has me on the fence - even if it is a lot more money than I have ever considered spending on a used guitar.

A couple of years ago someone had a Traphagen slope D for sale here, but it didn't catch the eye like this one.

Wowser, indeed !
