The tempo thing is interesting on this song. JT seems to be very laid back with this song, as you might be if you were playing this in the summertime heat of let's say, North Carolina, where he grew up. So I very much understand his approach.

I don't really know why I do what I do with the tempo. Maybe the dance concept combined with the very cool weather of the Pacific Northwest just makes the song move at a slightly faster clip. Maybe the tempo is all controlled by culture and how hot it is in the summer?

Yes, I should know better.

I have had family members living in both North and South Carolina, so I have visited both states multiple times. They are a special and lovely part of the country!

Hi Paul,

I'm so glad you like this song! I have played Copperline for many people and so many of them just look at me blankly, as if they have never heard it before. Maybe they haven't. Apparently a lot of people stopped listening to James Taylor after the 1970s, but I think he has written a ton of great stuff since.

And yes, that cedar top on the Olson is quite dark, kind of a copper top! That never occurred to me before in terms of how it fits a song called "Copperline."

It is a lovely sounding guitar! I feel extremely fortunate to have some very nice guitars.
