I have posted this before, but this is my latest 12 fret. It is LS Redwood over "The Tree" Mahogany and Brazilian appointments.

Brock, what are your thoughts on the sound of your 12-fret. I've been actually thinking about getting a Mahogany/Sinker Redwood 00 12-fret.

Brock, that is an incredibly beautiful guitar, and very tastefully done. There's so many things I like about the looks of it I would hardly know where to begin. I'm curious about the "Tree" mahogany. Besides being amazingly gorgeous, do you think it adds anything to the tonal mix above what you would get from any other piece of mahogany? If so, can you describe the difference?

I think Mahogany & Redwood is a great combination. I personally really enjoy the sound. Sound is always so hard to describe but to my ear, it is very fast, full and has a very nice clarity.

Thanks for the kind words.

In all honesty I don't think The Tree mahogany is bringing that much more tone to the table over "regular" old growth mahogany. It is the figure (and scarcity) that has made that wood stand out so much.

It is pretty dense (which is good), but not moreso than some other non figure old growth sets.

Now the LS redwood... that is another story. That is spectacular tonewood. When you handle the raw lumber it just "sings" when you rub your hands on it. Tone just pours out of these tops.

Brock, I have a few guitars with LS Redwood, and I really love the tone. I think it's really chimey, yet has this depth to it. What are your thoughts about Sinker?

I haven't had much experience with Mahogany, but I just got my first full size Mahogany guitar (I've had a few made of Sapele) and really like it. I've mostly gotten Rosewood (and think it goes great with Redwood), so I guess it's about time for some Mahogany.

Yeah, the sinker sets can be very nice too. Most of my redwood has come from the Carter stash, it is all very nice but the LS is quite special -- it is just alive with tone, and it is cosmetically very even and pure.

I think Mahogany is a much under rated tonewood. I think because it has been used on "cheaper" models in the past that somehow that has left a consumer impression of "not as good" as rosewood, but I think it is a fantastic wood and builds very nice guitars. I love building with it.

Brock, your guitar looks really nice ... I wish I could try it out ... especially since I've recently gotten interested in Mahogany ... and I'm looking for another 12-fret ... and I can't seem to get enough Redwood.

Ok, while we're on the subject... other than a Larrivee Parlor, who makes a short scale (as in 24" +/- .25") 12 fret? Preferably with the bridge close to the center of the lower bout and a lower bout width of 13"-13.5", and possibly a cutaway.
