What's the worst guitar you've ever owned?
I've owned a Tak, Taylor, Seagull, and most recently an Eastman. Each of them had their quirks but all special in their own way. A really nice Martin was coming my way at one point, but it was such a good deal, it sold before I could get to it.
At one point through a craigslist trade I acquired an "Esteban" branded guitar. My gosh, why would such a great player put his name on this? All laminate acoustic-electric with a horribly ugly rosette and a really nasty ring to it. Action was an inch high. It did come with a nice case though. Luckily I was able to trade it off later on. A Fender Squire Strat that was part of a starter "learn to play" package. I kept it for less than a month. The guitar wouldn't stay in tune and even to my inexperience eat sounded terrible. I sold it for $65.

Lol, I'll steer clear of this one, sounds like open season for brand bashing.

Electric...an Epiphone Les Paul. No matter what I did I could not keep it in tune.
Acoustic...a toughie. Probably a toss up between a Breedlove all-walnut jumbo (the tone was pure mud...And I LIKE Breedlove), and a no-name six string I bought in the Navy Exchange in the Philippines in 1977.

A cheap Sears Silvertone in 1962, it would actually start to go out tune in the time it took to tune all six strings. I gave up trying to play until 1964 when my brothers girlfriend let me play her fairly expensive classical and taught me the chords to "House of the Rising Sun" been hooked ever since.

When I was younger, and trying to find out what I wanted, I was very good at buying poor guitars - Harmony, Gibson, Guild, Epiphone, Martins. Mostly used, messed up or duds.
I guess that's the way you learn.

Dirty 30 RK. I took it back three days later. Surprising because Recording Kings in general are fine guitars.

Aria 12-string I bought in 1970 - neck bent like a boomerang, truss rod was frozen so it couldn't be straightened, wound up in the trash...

I have a rather stunning looking Morris 12-string.
Brazilian Rosewood with a centre wedge of Maple on the 3 piece back. Hand made - all solid woods. Abalone trim. I wish it sounded just half as good as it looks. Plays OK and it's got tremendous volume but the tone is almost shrill - Silk & Steel strings tamed it a little ...but I just don't play it.

worst
I had a dilly. It was left in a house I had to take back, bright blue, laminate, 5 rusted strings, with world-class high action, about 3/4".Walmart would have been ashamed to sell it. But I had fun with it, burning it, doing a favor to mankind. the neck lasted half an hour.

Probably the worst was a wartime Epiphone. Flat top sort-of-SJ style, maybe FT-79 (?). It had a factory-original wood saddle. The rest of the construction was excellent, but a bit heavy. I was temped to inlay KLUNKER on the neck, but I sold it to Norm's Rare Guitars instead.

Had a 100 dollar epiphone sg copy that was pretty bad... I could have probably make it decent with some new pickups, a set up, and some fret work though..
My worst acoustic was a Hofner budget model.. it did the trick though.. also.. I play a Martin from the 40's recently.. it was almost like trying to fret with my right hand for some reason..maybe the neck was bowed or something..I dont know..I just know it was very challenging to play..and it sounded pretty bad.. but the strings were probably also from the 40's |
