Martin low profile neck , comfortable or not?
hi guys!! I have little difficulties getting used to my D35 neck. Its not that bad, but sometimes difficult to play up and down the neck! Its not a fast neck for me. I know ill probably get used to it with time! The action is low and play well. My question is, Do you guys consider the Martin low profile a comfortable neck to play?

I love the neck on my HD-28, I personally found it much more comfortable than any Taylor I played and I thought it was nicer than the Gibson ones too.
That being said I have fairly large hands so that might have something to do with it. It does need a setup as the action gets quite high at the higher frets, but besides that I have no complaints at all so far.

Only neck I feel really comfortable with.
Many guitars out there that I was tempted to buy but the modified V neck was the one thing I knew I couldn't adjust to. |

I have a D 35 as well as a new D 18 . I find the low profile necks to be quite comfy and I have sausage fingers with average to smallish hands. A good setup will go along way.

This is the truth when you boil it down. Try different neck profiles.the low profile is the most popular, but they make other necks for a reason.

As acoustic guitarists, "comfortable" is certainly one of our more subjective terms. Among a great many!

I think the neck of my D-35 is comfortable. However, I also have a DN-4 Taylor, which also has a very nice playing neck. I had the Taylor for quite a while before I picked up the D-35 and I thought the Taylor neck was the cat's meow.
The wider Taylor neck means I need a few minutes to adjust when I go from the Martin to the Taylor or visa versa. I wouldn't say either is better, but they are noticeably different. In any event, I'm now quite familiar with the Martin and think it too is a great playing neck, albeit different. |

Obviously a personal choice. I've always been comfortable playing pretty much any neck, but lately (in my old age) I find the modified V to be the best in my stable.

I find the neck on My D-15M really nice and easy to play. I have also played a D-28 and a D-18 and had no issues with the neck. My first really good guitar that I still own is a Taylor DN4. I am so use to those easy playing fast smoothe necks. So when I started gravitating to Martins I was not sure what to expect. I sat down with them and started playing them and honestly the neck really made no differance to me at all. I was really comfortable playing the models I listed and never thought twice about the neck at all. I am only speaking for me. To another person I know some one will have a different opinion and feel.

The low profile neck on my 00017s is the most comfortable neck I have ever played. It really took me years to get used to the Martin modified V neck shape, but luthier Todd Stock made some relatively simple adjustments on my om28v and the mod v on it has become very comfortable and I have no trouble with that shape now. I can easily switch back and forth. Maybe that is because I can't play all that fast.

I'd rather have something bigger (50s Gibson "baseball bat" necks are my favorite), but even so, I've always found the Martin low profile to be an easy-playing shape and girth.

NO, the reason I no longer have a Martin is their necks.

It's a reasonably comfortable neck to play, I guess, but for my taste, I prefer the modified or shallow V.
