"RWRP" Question
Hi,
thanks for checking out my thread. I've got what's probably a simple question for all you guitar gurus out there. I've googled the living daylights out of the question and haven't been able to find a definitve answer. So, let's start with a little info about my guitar. Squier Strat SE SSS Rose Mariposa Vintage Pick Ups 1 Volume 2 Tones Basic Strat Wiring Tone Split Mod Bournes Premium Pots 250k CRL 5 Way Switch Neck P'up = 5.75 Mid P'up = "RWRP" 5.75 Bridge P'up = 5.75. Electrical Modifications: Treble bleed = .0015 uf /.100k Tone Split Circuit = "Knob 1" Adjusts Neck & Middle p'ups. Running 250k audio potentiometer with .022 capacitor. "Knob 2" Adjusts Bridge p'up. Running 250k audio potentiometer with .047 capacitor. So after all that data, here's whats probably a simple question. The middle (RWRP) pick up is louder than the neck and/or bridge pick up. I know that it's not a hardwire fault as I've "dis" and "re" assembled the guitar three times. Each time with new components which were tested good with a D.M.M. before installation. So, I know that it's a normal condition. My question is: Why is the "RWRP" more sensitive than a normally wound pick up? Thanks for assuaging my curiosity. Paul

Is it set higher than the other two pickups, by chance? I haven't noticed this effect, but I haven't gone out of my way to find it either.
I usually have the middle pickup a bit lower than the other two to get a good dose of "Strat Quack" in positions 2 and 4. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

as clintj mentioned, is it higher than the others? if so, lower it, or raise the others.
play music!

It could be an accidentally hotter pickup, but as mentioned above, many players lower the middle pickup to increase the difference in the 2 and 4 "inbetween"/"quack" switch positions. Another reason to lower the middle pickup is that it can get in the way of picking for some.
If I read you right you're talking about the middle pickup alone, not the combination with the middle/neck or middle/bridge pickup. It is normal for the two pickup, combined/quack positions to be lower in volume. If you've lowered it all the way and it's still too loud compared to the bridge and neck pickups in the single pickup positions you have something wrong with the neck and bridge pickups or something extra hot about the middle pickup. You could measure the resistance with a ohm meter on each of the pickups. Typically the bridge pickups will read higher as it needs to be "hotter" to make up for less string movement nearer the bridge.

RWRP = reverse wound, reverse poles.
I think it means a RWRP pickup when played in parallel with a "normal" pickup it will hum cancel.

Engineering explanation: All things being equal, a RWRP middle pickup will have more static mag flux in the coil due to the flux from the F & B pickups being in same direction and constructively adding, not opposing as normal. So it will produce a slightly stronger signal, same as if the magnets were a little stronger. HTH
