Default NGD: Martin J1

Very much an impulse buy yesterday, managed to snag this lovely, original Road series J1 from ‘97.

Bit of a rare bird these, I believe only 1100 were produced. It’s in superb condition, set up seems pretty good and it sounds BIG and lush. I’m having to get used to the narrow nut again which used to be my default for Martins, I seem to have transitioned over to the 1 3/4” on my other 2 over the last year.

Really pleased with it.

Congratulations, I was interested in that one, but could only offer a trade. Like you I too have become accustomed to the wider 1-3/4 nut width, so wasn't entirely sure, I would have got on with the J1.

P.S. I see you are parting with a Yamaha L-15a, I used to have one of those, sold it on ebay about 7 years ago, nice guitar.

Steve.

1145 produced I believe (which is not really rare for a Martin model, but sure you don’t one across them all that often).

Is this the Birmingham one? If so, then I think snagged is the right term! I was tempted to bid on it myself, to join my HJ28, but not really in a position to bid on anything at the moment.

Enjoy it - I’m certain you will.

Thanks. Yes it was the one in Brum, kind of stumbled upon it by accident really, quite fancied a J18m but they're very scarce.

The guy I bought it from had found his ideal acoustic, a Guild D50 and had moved on his J45 too.
