Default longest guitar strings?

My 8 string 30" scale baritone is stilling being designed by my builder and I would like to have pin-less bridge on it. But having a pin-less bridge would require me to have strings that are 44"+ long on the 5th and 4th strings. Now, for the the bass gauge string that is no problem but for the guitar gauge strings I think it may be/ I measured one my .047 D' Addario single strings and it was 42" long (including the 3" of unwound core at the end) as well as another single string I had (presumed to be D' Addario and around .032 gauge also it was out of the packaging and rusted). The other string was 42" too. Does anyone make strings in the .06- .008 range that are longer than 42" or must I go with a pinned bridge? The pin-less bridge design my builder uses adds 5" inches of length requirement to the string as seen here in my other guitar from deadwood guitars.

The builder has no recommendations other than if we can't find strings long enough we must go with a pinned bridge hence my question. Do any string makers list the total length of there strings?

Default strings

Why not just get a set of baritone string? Several companies make them. I am operating on the premise that string makers understand that baritones are longer scale and therefore make their string that much longer. I have never measured any of mine but always have string to cut off.

Does he get custom strings? According to the site I looked at custom sets for eight stringed guitars are 100+

Default Strings

Any chance that Sitar or Piano strings might work? I know they probably wouldn't be your first choice but it sounds as if your options are pretty limited.

Is a longer trapeze (tail piece) an option? That would shorten the required length, but I don't know if that would introduce any other problems.

I'm guessing you're in the Athens area if Deadwood is doing the work for you? I need to get over to see them.

OK, cool. I going to try to get down to their shop and look around this week. I've seen his instruments around for years but never made the trek to see them. Its time to get that done.

John Pearse has "XL" strings. Not sure what gauges are available. Those are the ones I use for my harp guitar subs.

Curt Mangan seems to be willing to do a lot of oddball custom stuff. I have custom bass strings for my 35" scale bass with a Kahler and a 32" scale fretless 7 string, which has shorter B, E, and A strings to fit in the tuning pegs.

Since it's still being built, can you go with a longer tailpiece? There's nothing magic about the extra string length, and if you search "guitar tailpiece" or something similar you'll find a wide variety of designs and gaps between the saddles and the ends of the strings. Could save hassles and money later on, even if you can custom-order extra-long strings.
