Seven String Acoustic
I have a 16 1/4" guitar going right now, before i brace the top and decide on bridge location and all that, i was kicking around the idea of a seven string acoustic. It was originally going to be a baritone, but i had this idea today about the seven string. So, what i'm asking is: Is there anyone out there with any experience in 7 string acoustics? I can't find much on the internet about them, other than some ibanez's. I wondered if any fingerstylists have experimented them? If not a 7 string it will be a fan fret baritone, so stay tuned for more information on a final decision and pictures of the build. Thanks

Matt Mustapick, who's an AGF sponsor, builds seven and eight string acoustics - suggest you drop him a note.

I've often toyed with the idea (in my minds eye or ear) of having one or two lower bass strings. One is probably better. I think if you can keep the nut to a reasonable width (say under two inches) and the string spacing close to what a six string would be (with 2-1/4" spacing) you might find a buyer. But I'm no marketing genius or luthier. If you go ahead with the idea, I'll be watching closely.

I'm still mulling it over but leaning toward the fan fret standard or fan fret baritone. I'm just not feeling like it's the right time for the 7 stringer, but thanks everyone for your input! keep an eye out for the build!

How about an inbetween standard and baritone with a 26" scale on the E and a 25.4 scale on the e or something similar. That way it would be okay to play in standard but sound awesome in DADGAD or other drop tunings.
