Seriously, if you want more demo's than what's posted in this thread, I'd suggest you petition the LR Baggs company to post some on their website, after all they are the ones that will benefit from demo's thru sales of the Sessions unit. It was a lot of work for me to make my demo's and I know they are not that good, but they do give a glimpse of what to expect. My graphs though, are the best representation I can give, as they actually show differences in the signal that you may not hear on my recordings. Yes a lot of the differences is volume related, which demonstrated a stronger signal which you will indeed get. I think the Session unit is really a nice addition to my collection of effect pedals, because I know the difference it makes to the signal....this may be more important to me as a recording benefit than live, as I really like working with really strong signals while recording and mixing. However the live aspect of the Session is also great as it makes my playing thru the Marshall AS50R sound better than ever.

Okay I spent tonight experimenting with the new pedal board and all the effects... I ended up making lots of demo's trying things out...my conclusion is that the Lyric>Venue>Session combination works best with a mic added. So I made this demo with the Lyric>Venue>Session on one track, and the AT2020 on the other track...blended together sounds pretty good. Have a listen if like...

I had a 20% discount code from Musician's Friend and almost pulled the trigger on a Session DI this past Friday but decided to hold off until more reviews come in from the field. Again, thanks for your ongoing feedback on the Session DI as it has been valuable in forming my thoughts on this device!

I don't know if it's a must have, but it's a nice thing to have. It gives me more mixing options, more controls, settings to twiddle with... It helps the Lyric for sure, but like Doug Young says, a couple of good mics will also yield a great recording....on this last demo, the Lyric>Venue>Session and AT2020 tracks sound almost identical. Now this demo has not had any special effects, eq, compression etc except for Normalizing to get equal volumes on each channel. So it's basically a raw track before mixing or mastering effects applied, which should make it sound much better.

The big draw of the Session for me is the added gain that I get into my amp...the difference is night and day. I have learned that I have to take it easy on the saturation or else I will get distortion in my signal. The multi band compression is a bit harder to distinguish, but it's there. However the bottom line is my amp sounds waaaay better with the Session than without. Maybe it's just a volume thing, but I'm getting a very strong signal to work with and that's like gold when you're trying to make a good recording or get a good amp sound.

I'm holding off buying one too until more field-trials are in.

ntik...thanks for posting that...it seems to be a very accurate demo..you can hardly hear a difference, which is correct until you take it away. Then you'll hear it. I can see he too is having a hard time capturing the effects of this pedal. AsI said before, the effects are very subtle...but after you work with it a while, you'll hear it.

Yes, I switched back & forth between the beginning of the video sans effects, and the end with full effects, and, like Petty, I preferred the dry signal.

Here's a short clip with some rough finger picking and strumming...what's interesting is that the dynamics of both. The volume level is very similar on the recording. I have to attribute that to the Session DI. The compressor is bringing up the quiet finger picking parts, and toning down the hard strumming parts. Just like you'd hear on a record.

Please excuse my rough playing....I haven't played that song in 30 years, I'm just starting to re-learn it now.

For a comparison...here's basically the same track without the Session's compression or saturation, basically a dry track.......you'll notice the difference in volume between the finger playing and strumming parts...

I feel the same. I wonder if it's a case of not tweaking settings enough to get a good sound but I definitely preferred the dry signal.
