I've never played a Guild I didn't like. Used, they're a great bargain.

Go on over to Let's Talk Guild to get plenty of discussion on those.

Simple. Guilds rule. Come on over to LTG and we can drool over Guilds all day long.

Short answer: I think that's a guitar that is well regarded. You need to make sure it's in condition that's commensurate with what it'll cost you. So, it should either need no work or be priced so that adding the cost of needed work will not put its price out of the realm of reasonable. On any older guitar, the neck angle is the thing I worry about. If the neck needs a reset, that's an expensive fix, often even more so on Guilds because of the fact that they join the body to the neck (with a dovetail joint) before applying finish to the whole thing. That makes opening the neck joint and leaving it looking good more challenging.

Folks at LTG can offer more guidance. And price discussions (not allowed here) are permissible there, so you can get an idea of what sort of deal you're getting.

My favorite name of all time. Have owned all the major brands. To me Guild gives you the most bang for the $$$. Currently own 4 but have had at least 1/2 dozen others. Assuming the guitar is in good condition & the price is right, you can't go wrong, especially one from the 70's- it's aged. Since you can't talk price on the AGF, send me an email & I will look up it's value from my "Blue Book" of guitars. Hope it works out for you.

I have a mid 70's D-35 (and a D-40C as well) and it's a real nice guitar. Mine has a beautiful sunburst as well. I have several good acoustics (see signature) and the Guild is one of the best sounding I think. If course it depends on your style and needs but if your a strummer- I find Guilds to be among the best for that. It's not my first choice for intricate stuff- that goes to my Larrivee and Martin (Taylor too...) but for great accompaniment- hard to beat a Guild.

Default Best Value in Better Guitars

As others have said, Guilds as a rule are extraordinary values, and as a result I have owned a bunch of them. I remember waaaayyyy back in 1976 when I bought my D50 new, I compared it to a Gibson J50 and a Martin D28 and liked it better than both of them. Of course we know now that the '70s weren't really the greatest era for Martins or (especially) Gibsons, but I've never regretted that purchase, and it's the one guitar I own that I'll never part with. In fact, my nephew is waiting for me to croak so he can inherit it.

The F 512 that I bought new in 1979 tops the list of guitars that I regret selling....

I had a friend of mine years ago that owned a D-35 Guild- great guitar .i bought a D-25CH the winter before last -that as well is a great instrument -One of the best guitars i ever bought for the money .

I still own my first Guild a 1971 D-55 -which is by far one of the best guitars ive ever owned . it will more than likely follow me to the grave - I would put it up against pretty much any instrument for sound and quality . Back in the seventies when all my friends were Martin people -i was a Guild person !

I am not a big fan of Fender Guilds - they just dont have the mojo or sound like the old ones -thou their still great instruments for the money in anyones book.

Be patient, it's a 1 man operation. The owner, Don has a full time job and a family. He'll get to you.

I'm a big Guild fan-but I am getting tired of reading about '70s Martins being sub-par. I know there were some issues for a few years but I am the original owner of a '75 D-28 and it is one sweet babe and has been a faithful lifelong companion-
So cool it!

I believe you bro ive heard few great ones from that time era.
Id love to buy a OM28V as well as a F47 Guild mini jumbo..
Im thinking of selling my Guild Gad50 if i get this tomorrow. Its only 3 months old.lol I love it but if i like that D35. well its done for,If i dont fall in love with the D-35 ill prob still snatch it up if the neck is as straight and true as he says. I got that feeling that if i dont go and check it out. Ill kick myself in the butt later. You guys think 70s era Guilds will go up even more over the years?
