[QUOTE=Craviola;4625010]Been listing a lot to DjelimadyTounkara latley. Fabulous player from Mali. Sounds like African Blues mixed with Fado, really interesting. His Solon Kono cd is in heavy rotaion in the cae. Enjoy.

This name is new to me (thanks!) and I am ALL OVER the Mali music scene

Too hard to pin down a single recording

Jose Gonzalez "Vestiges and Claws"
Richard Leo Johnson "Celeste"
Mohamed Abozekry "Chaos" (amazing oud player and amazing band!)

can't link any youtubey stuff. Just search in apple music or Spotify

I watched Nickle Creek's performance on ACL last night and was reminded of how much I enjoyed their latest LP.
I think the dead's may 77 Barton Hall is considered best because of the vocals. The next night in Buffalo is more of the same, but I prefer a more adventurous dead. Tight and hot I suggest the 15th anniversary show at Red Rocks.

I just started listening to this one again recently and I like it even more than I did last year. The Grammys occasionally do get it right and this album is evidence.

If you haven't heard this album, do yourself a huge favor and give it a listen. Great guitar tones throughout, beautiful vocals, and outstanding production quality.

Default Old time and blue grass music

Wanting to acquire a taste for old time and blue grass music so today while scoring some tests listened to "Blake and Rice" (Norman Blake and Tony Rice in their younger days.) Much to my surprise, it tasted great right out of the box with no acquisition time needed. Great album !

Imagine if Bruce Cockburn did a concert of his greatest songs totally solo and totally acoustic.
He did.
'Slice O Life'.
Grabs you from the opening and holds you the entire double album.
It's got it all, superb , faultless playing, great voice and amazing lyrics.

Thanks for the turn on. Hard for me to make the fado connection, I have a really large collection, but I like this a lot.
A lot of the guitar reminds me of the excellent kora work from Mali, like Toumani Diabatι. Love the sound of kora.

Townes Van Zandt, "Live at the Old Quarter, Houston, Texas"

I just recently stumbled on this one. I think if I'd heard this recording in my teens my life might have been different. Not better, but different.

Masterful singing, playing, and of course, songwriting. Just Townes and a guitar. It's a stunning record full of great songs, but these are my favorites:

Pancho and Lefty

Loretta

It's great to hear these gems in their natural state.
