When I first got it, it had a fresh, 'unaged' spruce top,
and I was using phosphor bronze light strings.
So back then, it was very bright.
It is now 5 years old, the top has aged in color and tone,
and I am using silk and steel strings, and I am amazed at
the tone now. Plenty of low end now. Excessive brightness
is totally gone, and it is so easy to play, great neck.

Well if you are playing plugged in you should be able to use the ES-T to tweak it to your liking.

Ok,

Well... You could look into the Alvarez Artist Series guitars. I think you get more for your money with these over some of the other options you have been presented so far. They also are well received as being nice guitars across the internet and this forum.

They all have cutaways and electronics with battery boxes that are accessed externally. they come equipped with bone nut/saddles and strap buttons installed. Rosewood fingerboards/bridges and mahogany necks, with 1 3/4" nut spacing, attached using a dovetail joint. They all also meet your original budget target of $500. Worth taking a look into in my opinion.

Alvarez Artist AF60CE: Folk cutaway w/ electronics. Solid Spruce top/ Laminate Mahogany b&s. $430-ish street price.

And the winner is.....

Taylor 214ce. I played a 114ce, and the Martin GPCPA5K. I really liked the fell and sound of the 214ce the best. Plus, the guy gave me a great deal and it came with a hard case. The 114ce had a gig bag, and the Martin came with nothing.

I have a PRS SE ANGELUS I like. Solid top, solid back, bone nut and saddle, nice sound, nice electronics. New they were 699, used in like new condition 500.00. Discontinued this year. They told me they could no longer offer at this price.
