Reverb
With the introduction of multi-fx units for vocals and guitar, the choices of type of reverb are huge now.
Reverb Styles: Hall Plate Theater Club Room Studio Ambience Arena Spring etc.... Wondering if you guys have a "go to" style (for live) for acoustic guitar? for Vocals? I know that variables exist (as in size/shape of room, size of audience, etc). I'm just asking for what you like in most enviroments. Thx-J. |

Room reverb is our 'go to' option, but just a small hint both for guitar and vocals.

I pretty much always use warm hall reverb for everything. Once in a while I'll use some chorus on a slow strummed song to get a 12 string effect.

I have a Roland AC-60 amp that I use when I play live. I use whatever reverb type is on that. Not sure what it is though, but I like it!

Regardless of what they are called, I never use a reverb unit's presets without a healthy amount of sonic modification with the use of pre-delay as well as eq before and after the device.

I have tried every pedal commerically availble and most rack units and the pedal that makes me go WOW is the Neunaber Stereo Wet. It's not plate, it's not spring, it can be hall like... You can go to their website to get an accurate description but it's just the single most amazing piece of gear I've ever played. You can get a nice subtle reverb to thick and ambient but the reverb sits under your tone and you don't wash out your dry signal which makes this thing so amazing. I have gotten sounds that make my instruments sound like they have a choir of angels behind them. I put 2 big foot knobs so I can control it with my feet but if you have the space you can control it with 2 foot pedals if you so desire. Usb updates, decent buffer, and great support. No affiliation with the company, just someone who is IMPRESSED.

Some reverb units allow you to control the space of time between the struck note and the reverberation effect. That's "pre delay." It helps give the effect of a large space, imitating the time it would take for a sound to hit the walls of a big room and make it back to your ear.

I like just a touch of hall.

Whichever sounds best on any given day. For me, it's usually the "63 Spring" (similar to Fender Spring Reverb) setting on my Line 6 Verbzilla. I do patch the Line 6 Verbzilla into the effects loop of my SWR California Blonde at times - the Verbzilla sounds way better than the stock SWR reverb.
