This spring I acquired a new Gibson J-35. I really like the sound, but it was very tight and new. I put a Tone Rite on it for three days and was blown away by the improvement. I also tried it on a 13 year old HD-28 and noticed no change at all.

New guitars change dramatically the first few months on their own. I believe that is why most say the Tonerite works best on new guitars. ....Mike

I have used a tone rite on all my guitars and it has worked best on my new guitars especially those that were recently built. Some with dramatic change and some less. I used it on a 000 Chinese made Silver creek guitar and it had incredible results. On the other hand I used it on 3 Larravee guitars and for some reason noticed no effect at all. I believe, from my experience that it is a great tool and works most of the time with varying effects..

FYI, I much prefer the PrimeVibe (used with an iPod Nano) to the Tonerite...and I've used both...successfully.

On that "note"..........I was at a high end shop that was using the Tonerite! Surprised me, I've never been in a shop that openly did this.

I'm going into this experiment with a positive attitude, which seems to be a prerequisite to success.

I have:

Martin 0015
Gibson J-15
Blueridge BR-163A

Which should go first? Which guitar is most likely to experience the biggest change?

With due respect, I'm not interested in tone rite bashing responses. If you've had a bad experience with the device, I'd love to know about it, but if you've never used one and just don't believe in it, that's not exactly the sort of anecdotal experience I'm interested in.

Thanks!
I have a Tone-Rite and have tried it on a couple of my guitars with positive results. If I had your three guitars, I'd try all of them, but my guess is that the Blueridge BR163A would show some improvement. You never know till you try.

This is OK, but not really on a par with my "Whole House Toneriteing", provided by the "Tube"*.

Why do you prefer the PrimeVibe? I know the product I have just never seen it in action.

Thanks.

I felt I had really great results using the PrimeVibe with prolonged exposure on my last Simon Fay guitar, which had long periods of no-playing after the initial break-in was done.

When new, I used the TR on this guitar for very-good results.

It was beginning to be broken-in (over a couple of years), but I had interruptions in my ability to play...so the PrimeVibe ended up being used for weeks on-end (after the break-in/maturation process was well underway), and it really gave a very smooth and polished feel to the sound of the guitar.

I do like the idea of pumping all kinds of musical vibrations through the top (and therefore the box...and entire guitar) with using an iPod via the PrimeVibe.

My experience=

Good for new instruments, not needed for older instruments that have good play time on them.

Newest, stiffest top will benefit most.

Yes, I own a Tonerite and have seen benefits.

Older broken in tops will see little response in my observations and use.

Might be helpful to identify what the deficiencies of each guitar are and what the goal of the treatment would be relative to correcting those.

That was my feeling until I used the PrimeVibe...success, even on a guitar that was certainly not-new.
