After listening to the two above tracks a number of times, I can definitely hear the difference that the Session's multi-band compressor makes. The Session will now be a permanent part of my rig as I think it puts a real touch of professionalism to my recordings. I can see where this will also work out well for live performances...

Again, please forgive my lousy guitar playing..and just listen for the volume changes between parts.

I wouldn't put too much stock in this demo. You can hear compression pumping before he even starts messing with the session. Either he's got other stuff in his chain, or his video camera has AGC engaged. Then while using the session, he has the notch filter engaged the whole time. To me, both with and without the session the sound isn't attractive at all, so I don't think you can conclude much at all from this.

Okay here's a recording A/B test using the same clip off the looper.

A= Non-compressed, a dry signal,

B= Compression with the Session..set at 2:00....

A----http://www.soundclick.com/player/sin...&q=hi&newref=1

B----http://www.soundclick.com/player/sin...&q=hi&newref=1

Exact same clip going to both. You be the judge...I know which one I like better...

Your compressed track appears to be louder - it'd be nice if these were downloadable to compare more accurately. But our ears always think louder is better, even if they're identical other than volume level.

yes I think it was a tad bit louder but I have corrected it with a new recording of a clip with the equal volume settings, so try again....sorry...so now the uncrompressed clip sounds a bit louder and is even pegging out a little.

so now all things are equal except for the compression setting.

It's true, I should avoid basing my decision on one Youtube video. I also agree that his tone is not attractive. I think the Session is something that I will need to try in person. I feel as though it's a pedal where a little can go a long way. I look at the Session as more of an effects pedal so I would probably run it first in line and then into a DI with eq options, a boost etc.

Levels are much closer, average is with half a db now, but your heavy strumming sections are clipped on both, so you're adding your own "saturation" on top of the session (and to the non-session track)

Doug, my A/B samples have been replaced with new A/B samples on the soundcloud page. These samples have the volume turned down just a little bit so as not to cause any "saturation." They can be downloaded.

Here's a link to the newest A/B samples...

As you can tell, there's not much difference between these two tracks. The uncompressed one is a teeny bit louder, but the compressed track does indeed sound fuller, a bit more professional. The uncompressed clip sounds like a home studio, the compressed version sounds more like what you'd hear on a record.

I found this demo video of the Session DI on the LR Baggs website...it's a bit long but goes over the Session DI very well.
