First Bluegrass workshop
Just finished my first bluegrass workshop, in Germany... Man I have a lot of work to do!

Took me a year to get comfortable with those Monroe 4 finger chords. I didn't put a ton of effort into getting them down though, since I don't like them and rarely use them. Steve Kaufman says it's okay to hate them, but don't hate them because you can't play them.
Playing at BG speed took over 2 years, and that I DID put alot of time and effort into. There are some tunes I still can't play to speed without a noticeable loss of tone, mostly tunes that have alot of scale runs in them. But it's a journey, not a destination. Indeed! I learned a quite a bit, but as my German is fairly basic it was strenuous just to understand.
Also learning by singing the melody rather than reading the music is new for me. It was pretty gratifying. There is a really good group here performing and teaching. Odd it to come to Germany to rediscover music from my childhood
