Default capoing problem

hi; this hasn't ever really been a problem for me but on my OM28 Martin ;when i put a capo on any fret[i have a few different capos too] my guitar goes REALLY wacked on tuning. it seems as though this just started in the last few weeks. is it the weather? i don't think so. i've placed the capo in ALL different positions ..at a lose! thanks.

I always retune after applying a capo. Especially in a live situation. It also depends on the capo and the guitar. Some capos have adjustable tension and that can be a factor on the tuning when it comes to certain neck shapes and string gauges. My Larrivee J05 works well with a Kaiser, but my Martin D18 hates it. The D18 works better with a Shubb. I hope this helps.

I use a capo a lot on all my guitars I prefer the Shubb to the Kyser due to the adjustable tension but I do use a trick that I saw on a YouTube video . Once the capo is in the correct position lightly press down on the strings with the palm of your hand inbetween the soundhole and the bridge . This works for me

It could be weather related. If you have started to use your house heating system, the guitar will need to be humidified.
There are many ways to do this.
Lots of suggestions here in archives.

Some folks actually have two different saddles for their guitars.
One for summer and the other for winter.
When the guitar dries out the action gets low and you get fret buzz.
Using a taller saddle will help but the best thing to do is to keep the guitar properly humidified.

Could be the age of your strings too.

+1 on the above - the only time I need to re-tune after applying a Shubb capo is when I need to change strings anyhow......

Never heard this. I’ll have to give it a try.

When I have serious trouble with a capo (I use Shubb or G7, and they usually don’t disrupt the tuning much ), it is usually happening at the same time I am having problems staying in tune. So I’d guess the problem resides in your strings or with humidity changes.
