Default Hatcher's Workshop '14

I thought I'd try a more general thread to cover a lot of the things that might be of interest. There are guitars that I don't do build threads on that I think people might like to at least see when there is something different I'm working on. Also, there are other things, like great woods, I'd like to share. When I saw Bruce Sexauer's shop thread I really liked the idea. So here goes: Hatcher's Workshop '14

Here is a guitar I'm sending out to the finisher today. My client said, "I love Cocobolo, sapwood, bear claw, and put an arm bevel on there". Certainly the list is much longer than that but, here is our original sketch:

Here it is ready for finish:

Most of the specs are obvious. This is a 13 fret Greta model in a Cocobolo and sapwood theme.

Thanks for checking it out!
Mark

I love the bevel, Mark! I've never seen anyone inlay it like that and I must say it's a brilliant idea. Perfect way to blend the rosette, back and sides, etc. Just lovely.

Kindly,
Danny

Thanks everyone! This will be at the finisher for about 5 weeks. Once back I'll attach the Cocobolo bridge, gold Gotoh 510 minis with sapwood capped Cocobolo custom buttons, nut, saddle, and pick-up system. I'll be sure to post the end result before it's shipped.

Thanks Again,
Mark

Yeah...what Danny said.
And my, what a lovely shop you have there!
Is that an upstairs loft? Do you sleep over the shop? Or do you have 20' ceilings inside?

Thanks Steve,

Yea, there is a 12' x 26' room upstairs that I use as a demo, showroom, office, and design work area. With carpet and a low ceiling it is pretty acoustically dead. It's good for recording but there is nowhere to hide sound wise when doing a live demo:

The shop also has a bathroom and a full basement that opens to the outside out the back. When I saw this building while we were home shopping I immediately said to my wife, "So honey what's it going to take for us to buy this home". Seizing the opportunity she responded "A new kitchen for the house". So I now have a great shop, and a new kitchen!

Smart man. Keep her happy, and all will be well.
Good idea for that loft. Now, how about a glimpse of the tool room?
You know, the ugly part of the shop.

Very nice! I love the wood choices and how it all ties together. I like the headstock shape too!

I've got to agree though... lets see the part of the shop where the real work gets done!

Hard to beat a workshop (mancave) in the back yard. I built mine to the purpose, and it has NEVER been as tidy as your upstairs.

Mark, I still need to get up and visit! So little time these days.

I saw that article of the OLD woodworking shop and Duxbury is not too far. I've been thinking about heading down that way. It would be interesting to see.
