Alan Carruth OOO-12 at TAMCO UK
I was delighted to meet Alan at this years Healdsburg, now I am seriously regretting not having had his guitars in before. This OOO-12 is a truly outstanding guitar. See http://www.northwindtonewood.com/lib...gany-mama.html for the story of the mahogany.

I have no doubt that guitar plays and sounds fantastic, as I've been the fortunate owner of a Carruth 12-fret 000 for almost a year now. I really like the looks of this 000; great looking curly mahogany combined with Alan's trademark features makes a great aesthetic.

I have a BR 000-12 cutaway of Al's that he's doing some work on for me. Can't wait to get it back. Al does beautiful work, and had somemore fine specimens at Healdsburg this year!

Thanks, all. That guitar at TAMCO has about the most 'Classical' sound of any steel string I've made. I'm missing it already...

That cutaway is just sublime. One of the most elegant things I have ever seen.

Burton LeGeyt (you should check out his stuff!) showed up at a local luthier's meeting with a bevel cutaway a few years ago, and I loved it, except the point on the outer end made it look like an after thought in some ways. I tried making one with the insert bent to an 'S' curve, so that it would be more of a continuation of the binding, and worked out the details on a few guitars. It's kind of labor intensive, and I can't see how you'd do it without some decent hand tool chops, but it's so sexy....
