Really great answers and participation all. Thanks. Maybe I'll loosen the helmet strap.

Why do you brag and call yourself ManyMartinMan ????

See how this can go sideways so easily?

It's a forum, there's good, bad, and everything in between. Enjoy what interests you, pass on what doesn't...........

I'd gladly pay you Tuesday, for an opinion today.

Very true. However, the question "what should I expect to pay for...?" Still will be met by - depends on where you live and your local pricing. A range will be possible.

It wasn't the case not too long ago. Guitar prices used to be a no no.

I know you jest, but you'll notice I have no need to "brag" by listing listing one or ten or... guitars in my signature because I have no purpose to. Just like, in your signature you claim to be..." Rich".... Actually, it's a play on my surname.

A few months ago, I got called grumpy for calling out a $ thread. Now they're EVERYWHERE. Starting to get annoying. This forum is hung up on what other people spend at the moment. What other people spend is none of my bidness.

I agree...IF you are asking an individual and putting them on the spot. For example, if someone posts a NGD thread and someone comments, "Sweet guitar. How much did that set you back?"

However, if it's a question launched at the forum in general, especially if it's in the form of an anonymous poll, then that's not quite the same thing. These threads are more about data gathering than simple nosy curiosity about one person's stuff.

Some folks are offended by, and question the motivation of these types of questions. Some folks are offended by, and question the motivations of many different things. Some folks are offended when someone holds the door open for a woman. Some folks are offended by Fox News and others are offended by CNN. Some folks are offended by wealth--others are offended by even the hint of Socialism.

Ol' Honest Abe said "you can please some of the people some of the time but you can't please all the people all the time". . ."I'll let you be in my dream if I can be in yours." Bob Dylan said that. Some folks are offended by Bob Dylan.

There are folks here who are easily offended and readily let you know. If that's how you choose to be, fine w me.. . Just stay offa my cloud.

I was taught it was rude to ask stuff like that. My gripe is how constant it has become. It's making me miss all the dang threads about Tone Rite and grain runout.

Some folks ignore people they think are rude. I was taught that when you argue with an idiot, passerby's can't tell which one the idiot is.

As a general rule, the first one to mention a specific dollar value is lying.

I bought my last car for several thousand under the "lowest price I can possibly give you" price.

Picks, guitars, luthier work... you name it, there's a question for it.

I get it, "if you don't want to respond...." you don't have to read it - and I've stopped. However, to me, it lowers the overall calibre of the forum with all of these "hey, what did you pay for that" questions. Obviously there are at least two positions on this - one is this one and the other one is - why not ask what they paid? Because (to me) it's just rude. Buckled in, helmet on - let the torches and pitchforks commence.
The RuleBreak has arrived. I was the OP on the infamous, "How much did you pay..." thread.

I am only here to explain myself here and I am not here to pick a fight or start an argument.

"I was taught as a child to never ask someone what something cost."
Is this an accurate statement? So you do not ask how much something costs? I am thinking stuff like a hotdog or a soft drink or a cookie. I don't think this is what you meant here.

I do think it is RUDE to ask how much someone paid for certain things IN PERSON. My friend purchased a nice new Gibson acoustic guitar just last weekend. I was happy and jealous but I didn't ask how much he paid for it because it is none of my business. IN PERSON, it would be considered absolutely rude. However, I asked the question on the internet and it was a blind poll. My objective in asking the question was to get a better picture of AGF members as a whole. Am I on a forum where most of the members play below $500 guitars? If so, then I would choose different or more appropriate topics to talk about. I do not like the fact that my question was twisted in a very cynical way (not accusing anyone or the OP).

If its rude in person, its rude online, in a letter, on the phone,in sign language, in a pictogram, or in a smoke signal.
