Exclamation ROY CLARK Malaguena OMG

HOLY. SMOKES. Just learned about him. Can't believe I'd never heard before!!! (only recently got into country)

Definitely one of the all-time best. Amazing strumming & picks like the wind.

YouTube his Malaguena, it'll change your life if you've never heard. Still speechless...

If that impressed you (as it should) you should check out a lot more Roy Clark. Certainly one of the best.

I used to watch 30 minutes worth of Hee Haw (Google it if you've never heard of it) just to hear Roy play something. He could play anything with strings. Listen to him tear up "Orange Blossom Special" on fiddle! He could pick a mean banjo as well. It would not surprise me to find out he could play the harp! In 1977, '78, and '80 he was instrumentalist of the year (Country Music Association). In 1982 he won a Grammy for Alabama Jubilee.

He and Glen Campbell play a killer version of "Ghost Riders in the Sky."

I remember seeing him all the time on Hee Haw when I was a kid. He did Folsom Prison one time and just absolutely floored me. I'm in East Tennessee so Hee Haw was on PBS.....

Buck Owens was on the show as well. My friends (and even my folks) thought I was a bit strange--a northeastern suburban kid with long hair watching that show and laughing at it, too.

It's good you stumbled on to that. Roy Clark was amazing. I remember seeing that on T.V. when it happened. That being said with apologies, I'm going to derail your thread and post this:

I would also urge you to check out this guy:

Almost as strange as a Brooklyn guy who grew up in the city projects and played his first paid gig at the local black church - and Roy was/is/will always be one of my favorites...

He is still alive and kicking, in case any of the younger folks here might misinterpret this And and absolute, bona-fide LEGEND of guitar.

I knew that Roy Clark was an amazing musician so his rendition of Malaguena didn't really surprise me. However, I then walked over to this version of the song by a (app.) 72 year-old Charo, previously known as the Cucci-Cucci Girl. Who knew she had such chops on the guitar??? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmNPXqG6ovg I remember reading that she studied under Andres Segovia as a child...

True story. My dad's friend had an uncle who employed Junior Samples as a farm hand in Georgia. He had to fire Junior because he was too dumb to be a farm hand. What he portrayed on Hee Haw was the real deal. He was a 6th grade dropout.

'Nuther true story. My Father-In-Law is a retired surgeon. While serving in India as a missionary surgeon in the 60's, he rented his house in Bakersfield to Buck Owens. My FIL doesn't follow country music, and didn't really even know who Buck Owens was. He complained that Buck installed an intercom system in the home without his permission.

Much of the world. She has been performing professionally for about 50 years. Introduced to the world by band-leader Xavier Cugat when she was a teen. She too is still playing regularly.

Default Roy Clark

Another underrated ( or at least not as famous as he should have been) banjo player was Carl Jackson. He used to be a regular with Glen Campbell, who was no slouch on guitar either.

I remember watching him on hee haw switch from instrument to instrument all in one song, I think he did guitar, banjo, mandolin, trumpet, and piano all in the same song.
