Default Rave Labs PMB-II "Phantom Power"

I think of combining a K&K Pure Mini with an AKG C-516.

Is it possible to wire the combination of the two to a stereo jack and let the Raven Lab give power the AKG?

What do you think of the idea in general?

Yes, you should be able to do that. And it's a good idea.

yes, that works. I haven't tried that 516 specifically, but I know that mic works with the SPS1 and the Raven would be the same. I do this in all my guitars - an added mic works wonders for any pickup

Thank you guys!

I was a little worried about the Raven Labs not having real phantom power but the 9V seems sufficient to power the AKG mic.

I will try !

All internal guitar mics that I know of don't need "real" phantom power. They use simple unbalanced 9 volt bias power. To add a true phantom powered mic inside a guitar, you'd need either 2 jacks or a 4-wire jack (which would be non-standard even if you find such a thing). Most guitar mics just have a hot wire and ground. The 516 seems to be an exception, as is the Audix L5O I've been using. I haven't tried the 516, but Pendulum recommends it, and they only provide unbalanced bias power thru their mic module, so it must work. I believe AlohaChris has used that mic as well, so he may be able to provide more info. With the L5O, I just run one of the 2 hot wires to ground, and it works fine.

Not having tried the AKG mics, I've always been puzzled as to how one mounts the mic inside the guitar - it has a gooseneck and no obvious way to attach it to the guitar. Again, maybe Chris can help. With the L5O, DPA 4061 and others I have used, I simply attach them with a small wire clip and bit of foam, which seems to work well.
