Default Staring into the face of the darkest side of guitar...

When is a guitar not a guitar? When you use it to control a synthesizer, of course.

Guitar synthesis... oh my gosh. The Borg have arrived.

Oh, well. At least Pepino D'Agostino went there first...

Look HERE for more.

Happy Friday morning...

Bob

One of my Strats has been assimilated. Some of the sounds are horrible, but most are quite usable and very entertaining. On some of the keyboard sounds, no matter how careful I play I get high off pitched accidental notes when playing chords. Not sure where they're coming from. I love the gong.

I've noticed them as well, and have just had to clean up my playing extra well for those patches. I figure fretting even a damped string must put off a little harmonic content - and it is often not harmonically related to the other material I'm playing.

Have you seen the Moog Electric Guitar? They claim its not a synth, but it does make some synth-y sounds. Pretty cool, i think. Except for the price tag. That isn't quite as cool.

Sex is irrelevant, drugs are irrelevant, rock and roll is irrelevant. Resistence is futile. Your ankle bone's connected to your leg bone, you're leg bone's connected to your knee bone, your knee bone's connected to your ancilary lateral plazma hose......

I went down the Guitar synth route (GR-20 and Axon 100) last year and use it quite a bit. Even did a live nursing home routine that took a couple years off the lives of all those in attendance.

Certainly lots of pros and cons, but overall, I love the technology.

I have. I think it is a variation on the Fernandez Sustainer, but I'm not sure.

I have had a GK2 pickup sitting in my studio now for about 3 years. I can't decide which guitar to put it on! In the meantime, I use my Godin LGX-SA's Roland-style pickup to run my VG-88. Would love to have the new VG-99, but don't have the green.

I think they're pretty cool!

I did see a guy who made a guitar with pickups, line6 variax modelling AND synth access all in one!

One of my 'toys' is a VG-8 as well. It's a cool creative outlet, IMO....if you're not a purist.

I have had a Brian Moore I guitar for several years now, and I use it mostly to
do keyboard type parts. Some of the sounds do require specific technique to
get the most out of them.
