Default If you need a tube...

I don't think I'd seen Bowie post here before recently but when I saw his screen name I wondered if he was the same Bowie I'd heard people speak of on other forums, so I sent him a pm and turns out he is.

Bowie, aka Christian Whitmore, has a business he's been running for around 20 years called ProAudioTubes. His reputation as a seller of tubes is stellar... he's a stellar seller. But he doesn't just sell them; he tests them so that you can be sure if you buy a tube from him it will function as it should and will demonstrate the proper musicality.

So if you're looking for nos tubes for a vintage amp or to upgrade a favorite microphone, talk with Bowie, tell him what kind of tone you're after. He's an excellent resource on the subject.

I don't think he has a website. His business evolved simply by word of mouth and the reputation he earned for being incredibly knowledgeable. If you google his name and his company name, you'll find he comes up as the guy to talk to when you want to maintain the sound of vintage gear or elevate the sound of newer gear with a cheap quality tube.

FYI - He didn't ask me to promote his business. I thought it might be helpful to someone at some time to know he's here. He came back to this forum to do some, in his words, "nerding-out" because acoustic guitars are on his mind.

He's been active here for about a week or so.

Great to have another source for tubes. We have a couple of tube amps and a couple of Lauten Audio tube mics and unfortunately, L/A has not had replacement tubes available for some time. My Sweetwater rep recommended Tube Depot, whose website claim they also test every tube they sell. I bought a few of the tubes for the mics and they seem to work fine so far, and they're half the price of the tubes from L/A.
