A bend was throwing off my timing...
There's a cool little piece that I'm learning. (all in 8th notes) You have to bend one note so that its the next chromatic note, but it was killing my timing because you had to bend it, then hit an open adjacent string and then bend it again and then pull off to the open and then the same open note to begin the next measure. Totally messing it up most the time. So instead of the bent note I just played the next fret as the bend until I get the whole thing going at speed. Totally fixed the timing issue (6/8) while I'm learning it at a slower speed and still sounds good (even doing speed bursts to performance).
Sometimes you have to trick yourself into doing things right,

If you heard someone doing it (a link to a video clip or and/or a tab would always be welcomed to make the specific nature of the issue less vacuous.
