I'm surprised how few mentions Jeff Beck gets here. Oh well, it was a question about favourites.
For me, there is, and has never been, a finer exponent of the electric guitar, as an instrument in its own right, than Mr. Beck.

Big Jimmy Page fan and I just love his acoustic work and alternate tunings.

My favorite electric player is Bernie Leadon, of the Dillard & Clark Expedition, Flying Burrito Brothers, and of course the Eagles. Did some time with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and has done hundreds & hundreds of sessions for other artists. One of the most tasteful country pickers ever. A true master of the Telecaster and the B-String Bender.
I think the reason he's so underappreciated is his versatility - he plays great banjo, mandolin, acoustic guitar, some pedal steel, bass of course, and is a great harmony singer. He taught the early Eagles how to sing harmony parts. If all he'd ever done was play electric he'd probably be more of a legend. He's what country rock is all about. |

Just got to see Todd in concert. Band was tight. He was dead on. Very tasteful player.

A great player for a great band. He has his own unique playing style, but I guess we could say that about all our heros. Alex has even acted in the Trailer Park Boys as himself.

Slash is awfully good......no one else mentioned him so I thought that I would.

Slash has a lot of fans and they're always trying to get the "Slash" tone. He has his own signature Marshal amp, Gibson Les Paul, and Seymour Duncan pickups. I still remember buying AFD when it first came out in the '80s and I saw G'nR open for Iron Maiden back in '88 when they were still unknown.

He does have a nice sound. This is not to ignore all of the other great electric players mentioned. In fact, it's really hard to pick the best, since they really are all great in their own way. Slash is my favorite, however, although it's really hard to choose. |
