I wear a Swiss Military watch I've had for at least 15 years. I will sometimes use my iPhone to see what time it is, but still prefer my watch. I wear it with the face on the inside of my wrist. Why? Because my father did.

I had one in the way back. It was a self-winding Seiko with a stop watch function, which is primarily what I used it for. A regular stop watch at the time was somewhat bulky and had to be pocketed. I kept the Seiko on a belt. The job I had required timing events on a daily basis and the belt-located Seiko was perfect for that. I still have that Seiko stuffed away somewhere.

20+ year old Tag Heuer Kirium. I would never spend that much on a watch, but it was given to me as an "Achievement Award" by the company I work for. It's the most indestructible watch I've ever experienced. The first time I got the battery changed I took it to an authorized Tag service rep and it was like 50 bucks to replace the battery and "pressure test" it. After that I just started doing it myself and it's still just as waterproof as it ever was.

Garmin Forerunner 620 or Suunto Vector. Together they fulfil all needs I have and in addition I think both look great!

I mostly wear a Tag too. I've owned it for about 20 years. It was a damaged watch turned into the elementary school. I saw it on the counter and had no idea what it was. I just picked it up on the office counter and said to the principal, "What's this doing here?" He said, "Take it, nobody ever comes in to recover stuff from the lost and found." I was like, no way! What if somebody does come in?

I took it. He had my number. I watched the papers for lost items. Nothing.

After a few weeks I took it to the jeweler, 'cause the watch band was completely damaged (found in the street and run over by a car). Then I found out! Jeweler said the watch band would be $190 bucks!

I've worn leather straps ever since. Just recently went to black crocodile and love it!

I have my father's Gerrard-Perrigreax (sp), a 1977 Bulova digital (military time only), a gold Juvenia, a Belair (quartz), my Caravelle from 8th grade (wind up), an automatic Wittenhaur and a Gruhn (windup). Just stuff I've picked up over the years.

I do love my Tag though. Still buddies with the Principal - he plays old-time banjo.

My grandfather gave me his every-day watch on his deathbed. He was a bus driver in Newark, NJ, and was given the watch for safe driving. It’s a Lord Elgin, 20 jewels.

The watch is inscribed with

PUBLIC SERVICE
HONORS
EDWARD QUINN
1944 PERFECT 1957
ACCIDENT RECORD

Sorry for all the caps, it’s how it was inscribed.

This watch will stay in the family!

I have a Huawei Smartwatch 2:

It's awesome. Has GPS, step monitor, heart rate monitor, NFS for Google/Samsung pay, answers call and texts, and it has a ton of faces which all have useful info on them like steps, heart rate, stopwatch, weather, etc... I also have several other non-smart watches (Edox, Citizen Eco Drive, etc.), but I wear the smartwatch most of the time.

As far the phone crowd. I'm sorry, but having a watch (even a non-smart watch) is much more convenient that taking your phone out of your pocket. Also, with a smart watch, I can take calls, get sports scores, news, weather, and texts without having to be near my phone.

Nice.

I'll take it that you're another who probably agrees with my feeling certain the watch industry as we've known it is over.

I love watches. I've worn one every day since I was 7 years old. I have a modest collection - current favourite daily wear is this Seiko 5.

I don't think it is at all. I teach at a university and I would say, anecdotally, at least half the kids are wearing watches which is a mix of traditional and smart watches. I think regular watches are back in vogue. 10 years ago, I don't remember almost anyone wearing a watch.

I'm not wasting Saturday night on watch sales homework but generally following the finance and tech news has me sure these things are many millions of sales by individual companies with several selling them.

Maybe your campus demographics don't show them all over but I see so many of the Fitbit, Garmin and Apple watches that I'm saying the industry has changed.
