If you all have been watching the nightly news, it revealed that Susan was a poor woman, bulleyed in school, made fun of because she had learning challenges. She cared for her ill mother over many years, never married, and has never been kissed...She truly is, as one of the judges stated, the coal turning to a diamond...

She promised her recently deceased mother that she would honor her memory by auditioning for the show...

And, she was inspired by that guy from her town (or in the neighborhood - she knew him) who went on one of these shows and sang his way to third place!

In one interview, she says her mother kept telling her to do it, but she wouldn't - until she saw her "neighbor" and found her courage because of him!

Every time I listen to it, I cry.

Music today is entirely too visual. Bessie Smith is just one example of an incredible singer who wouldn't have a chance today... Even greats like Caruso or McCormack would have been stymied by today's need for legs ("tits and ***" as the song from Chorus Line goes!), bodies, movement - all that NON-MUSICAL crap (IMHO, that is!)

Even today's male country stars have to be "cute". And they definitely have to be young!

I was told many years ago that I should get some skinny sweet young thing to lip sync my stuff for me because I just didn't have the looks to pull it off.
And that was when I was 20!! Now that I am over 50, it's even worse

Music is for the EARS not the eyes. Just like finding the right instrument - it's about what you hear not what you see!

Susan Boyle has the RIGHT instrument!! I hope she gets to share it with all of us soon!

By the way, she is already in negotiations with Simon Cowell's record company - I guess you might say, even if she doesn't win, she has already won, as he has signed her!

Nudging 20 million Youtubes hits, what a worldwide "feel good".

Good luck Susan, your world has completely changed forever, hopefully for the best!

I don't mean to be sour grapes, but this was a Simon Cowell setup. Very wet effects on her voice, most likely pitch-corrected. I don't doubt she sang the notes, but she had help from the sound booth. I don't believe that the judges didn't know what they would see. Everything about this spells mass-manipulated setup. If they want an act to flop, they dry up the effects and take the processing off the voice.

I do wish Susan the best, but Cowell's "music" shows are pablum. He is a master manipulator. And the audience...wow. Encouraged to judge a book by its cover. Rude. I don't forgive the audience, even though it is a reaction that was, to my mind, clearly orchestrated.

And now that the "Cry Me A River" single has surfaced, I'm 100% certain that the producers had this one in the bag. But we love the ritual of the redemption, we love the underdog story. Shades of Marie Digby.

A stakeholder in the show claims it was real? Big surprise!

Here's a blog that sums up my feelings about the audience:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dennis..._b_187804.html

Simon Cowell lowers the common denominator for music.

Imagine how singer/songwriters like Billy Joel, Neil Young, Warren Zevon, or Bob Dylan would have done on American Idol. Barry Manilow, with his pitchy voice? Pre-80s Elton John with his scoops and drops before he got voice training?

If the moment wasn't manufactured, then the behavior of the audience and what they could have done to Susan is morally reprehensible to the extent that any compassionate or thinking person should boycott the program.

Hate to be a cynic but the term "hook, line, and sinker" comes to mind. Think this is one of the most carefully rehearsed "spontaneous" events in many years.

Looking at some of the negative comments, I think it's best to keep an open mind about this whole thing. It's easy to write something off as "staged" and meanwhile you destroy the beauty of this story if it's NOT "staged". Who knows for sure? I guess time will tell, as it usually does.....
