I've bought my 133's for around $110 a pop. You should be able to shop around, but I just buy mine at my local pro shop.

I'm not kidding about the delicacy of the 85's, though. I know more than one large audio company who have a good sized pile of defunct ones. I believe it was enough of a problem that Countryman did some redesign work but haven't heard anything lately. Probably a case of "once bitten, twice shy".

In "the business" things have to perform well...and stand up. That's why you'll find the big boys using Radial, BSS and Whirlwind.

And I DO care, otherwise I wouldn't post info on correct impedance and discourage trying to get good results from cheap gear. It just seems strange for folks who spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on a good guitar to plug it into cheap electronics. That I can't understand.

I don't believe the search because I know I've mentioned them here before. At the Kennedy Center we have BSS 133's, Whirlwinds, and I believe the concert hall has some Countryman DI's. Wolf Trap has Radials both passive and active, as well as some Countrymans. I don't believe we have any of the BSS 133's out there, but I could be wrong.

I think the question to ask is what are you using it for? If you have an active pickup, then usually one chooses a passive DI, otherwise you'll likely need to pad the output on an active DI. In some cases, the DI's pad doesn't have enough cut to counteract the combination of the active pickup and the active DI, the result will be that the signal is overdriven before it reaches the head amp.

It's a fine DI, high quality, low on extra features.

I'm sure the more enlightened among us will list their favorites but for me it was literally the best $99 I've ever spent!!

Best,

I like it better than the Baggs PADI and the BBE Acoustimax that I used to have. I can EQ my guitars using onboard EQ & mixer EQ, and gain staging, string choice, pick choice, and dynamics take care of the rest. I love the minimalism.

Best bang-for-your-buck DI is the Whirlwind IMP2, with the ProCo DB1 a close second.

If you have the money, I'd seriously look at the Radial JDI. Undoubtedly the one DI where you can't go wrong.

Since you are using a Matrix pickup, you could try and find a used Aura pedal/DI. You would get the benefit of the imaging and all of the other usual features found in preamps/DIs. However, they are expensive. But, well worth it.

As a professional sound engineer and a professional performing musician since the mid 1950's, the Behringer ADI21 fits your ticket for inexpensive, but economically effective. Ric

I quite like the LA Audio DI boxes. They made fairly decent priced too.

Ah ... but unless it's really expensive, and made of unobtainium it simply can't be any good. Or so the collective says.
