Pedalboard power supply for ToneDexter?
What are folks using for a power supply when you add a ToneDexter to your board? The TD needs an 8w supply (so 533mA @ 15vdc, 667mA @12vdc or 889mA @ 9vdc) and ships with a 12v, 700mA adapter. Are there any available pedalboard power systems that provide more than 500mA at any voltage between 9vdc and 15vdc? I've seen some that provide 800mA at 12v but they're always AC, not DC, and I'm not familiar with anything that will provide the 8w needed.

Hey, neighbour! As it happens, I have a Cioks DC5 I was about to list - I decided to grab an AC10 instead so I could power my Solstice as well as my pedals. I'm available this Wednesday on if you want to meet up to try it out. I have the cable required to combine the current supply from 2 outlets, so you'd get 600mA by chaining the top 2 outlets. I'm doing this with the AC10 to power my reverb. Fits perfect under a Metro board, which you have IIRC...
What do you think. Mr. May? http://cioks.com/products/dc5/ |

Thanks, James, for the draw clarification...means more possibilities open up...and for the suggestion. It looks like the new (?) low-profile Strymon Ojai-R30 might work for me though it seems like overkill for my needs. I'm also considering Ryan's Cioks idea/offer (will contact you offline, Ryan) but it seems that whichever way I go with a high-voltage supply it will mean running an AC cord to my board. I've been using a Volto for the past few years and love the convenience of the battery for a variety of reasons. I'm thinking that if I have to plug the board in to an AC source then I might as well just use the provided AC adapter to power the TD and continue using the Volto to power the rest!

Does anyone know if the Truetone CS7 will definitely work with the Tonedexter?

I'm using the 9V, 500mA port on a Strymon Zuma and it works great.

Voodoo Labs’ Pedal Power 4x4 has high-current outputs which can be combined to provide sufficient current for almost any pedal.

Hi all
I'm using a Rechargeable Power Supply (Lithium Battery) called the JOYO JP-05 Rechargeable Power Supply. It has a graduated display which tells you when the power drops from beneath the 70% level and then the 30% level. In 5 hours of having it supply power to the ToneDexter, it had not even registered the 70% level. It costs $70 (as of Feb 2020). |

Is 400ma enough though?

I recently got a Cioks DC-7. I don't have a ToneDexter, but each of the outputs provides 660 mA at 9v (they are all also switchable to 12v 500 mA, 15v 400 mA--for those of you who use a Radial PZ-Pre--or 18v 330 mA). Seven outputs. Compact and light design. No wall-wart. Nice and quiet.
With the two daisy chain cables that come with the unit (one double, one triple), I'm able to power 10 pedals, including some rather current-hungry digital ones. it should handle the ToneDexter with ease. https://cioks.com/products/dc7/ It has two fewer outputs than the Strymon Zuma, but it's more flexible (the Zuma only has two outputs that switch voltage, the DC-7 provides that on all outputs--and the Zuma lacks at 15v option for Radial pedals), and the DC-7 is a little more powerful. It's also smaller, lighter, and a little cheaper (still not a cheap piece of equipment). Both the DC-7 and the Zuma are expandable. Louis Last edited by lschwart; 02-11-2020 at 05:45 PM. |

I use a Strymon Zuma. Feeds the Tonedexter and a couple other pedals.

Tonedexter should be fine to power with a regular 1spot, correct?

I have a Cioks DC7 on my acoustic board to power my Radial PZ Pre. Great power supply. Not cheap.
I just wish they used barrel connectors in stead of RCA plugs.
