Default CA Cargo and Medium Gauge strings

Hello everyone,

I'm sure there was a thread on this, but I can't seem to find it.
Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone has used mediums on their Cargos.

Anybody out there have used mediums on their Cargo for awhile and have had no ill effects?
Also, what brands have people used to get the best results?

BTW, I love this guitar!!!! Have had my eyes on a Cargo since they first came out, finally got one for a great price, and came to the conclusion that they definitely live up to the HYPE!

I would call CA and ask them. I put mediums on my COT and it left the factory with lights. I was told by the CSR at the company that the guitar could easily handle mediums with little to no change in action. Their number is (337)233-4119.

Enjoy!

Yea I'm guessing it won't be an issue due to the carbon fiber being so tough.

I tried a set of Elixir PB mediums on my Cargo. No ill effect, no noticeable change in sound, but I didn't like the extra bit of tension/stiffness in the strings. I switched back to lights. I'm happy with them. I have had no buzzing regardless of string gauge.

In terms of strings, I've only tried Elixirs on CA guitars.
I want to kind of change it up, but want to see what other people have experimented with. I've been wanting to try out D'addario EXPs, John Pearse, or DR strings.

Either way, the mediums seem to fix the problem.
I was mostly concerned about it affecting the guitar structurally.

Search for "buzzardwhiskey's" thread on his experimenting with various string sets, although it may be on a 5i rather than a Cargo. I can't remember for sure.

I owned a Cargo for quite awhile before I bought my 7iM and I found that it played and sounded much better with Mediums. I used the Elixer Nano mediums with great success. Now with the 7i it sounds much better with the standard issue Nano lights. These guitars are supposed to be indestructable so I don't see why mediums should ever affect the neck.
