Default Phantom power/Ultrasound

Thinking of buying a Ultrasound DSX Combo and DPA 4099G condenser
mic.....this mic has 48 V phantom power....can it be set up to plug in the Ultrasound? I think all ultrasounds have XLR inputs for 15V phantom power. Anyone using the DPA 4099G? This is all I was thinking of using to amp my guitar playing small clubs plus use the other channel for vocals. I have a custom Braz/Adj guitar and do not want to put any type of pickup on it. Thanks in advance.

You should be able to make it work out with one channel for vocals and one for guitar, as both channels have combi jacks.

It might be a bit low powered sending 15v to a mic that requires 48v though... in order to avoid underpowering your mic, there are a couple of good options I think.

1) different mic: a dynamic would work okay, but if you're really concerned about tone (which you seem to be), a condenser that takes a battery (AKG C1000s comes to mind, as does the Rode M3) would be great. These have both been used with some success on live acoustic guitars, the AKG especially, although some people find it too harsh on the high end for their tastes.

2) a separate Phantom Power unit. 48v phantom power units are cheap, and there are some that even mount on your mic stand. If your heart is set on this mic, then this is probably the best way to go. shop around and check out the options

here are a few phantom power options:

and the mics I mentioned:

Hope you figure something out!

Hi tartan…

First of all Hello and Welcome to the forum! Glad you joined…

The DPA 4099G can be powered by 5-50volts phantom if used with the included XLR adapter. I think that means the UltraSound will be fine...

Here's a video of our forums own Doug Young demoing it in Acoustic Guitar Magazine.
