Mac or PC
Looking to get a new computer to start recording acoustic/folk type music in the new year. I was just wondering what do you guys use/prefer to record your music with? Macintosh or Windows PC ? Is it easier to learn to record on one versus the other?

For music, I like the Mac, which is very quiet. For gaming, a PC is best.

You are missing an answer choice: "It doesn't matter" should be listed. I happen to have both and I think that the choice of computer isn't all that important relative to other gear/"things". In 2002, I might've given you quite a different/polarized answer but not in 2012/2013. My $0.02.

I just bought a 2012 macbook pro with a quad core. Think that's my vote.
I do use windows 7 for gaming though?

It depends on your recording and editing needs. I voted Mac, as there are alot of very good and inexpensive tools to use with it, as well as some very expensive professional hardware/software. But if your needs are minimal, you can do alot of very decent work with an iPad -

NEITHER. I use a portable recorder which is simple to operate and requires no special set-up time...I turn it on and record. The only time a computer is needed is when I want to burn a disc or upload a song to the net. Transfer from the recorder to the computer is a snap via a USB cable.

Hi @yoda_soda ... Both Mac and PC use the same high end processor, i7, so both may process equally or with no major differences. On PC's you do not have Garage Band but you have a bunch o DAW's available that can equally work. By the other hand Mac's are much more expensive so I would go for PC and with the saved money would get some great DAW or peripherals.

I used to hate on portable recorders but my department has a couple of Zoom H2ns and I was blown away by the sound quality. Literally blown away. The sound quality was incredible. We used them to record soud samples for our concreté pieces and I even used it to sample a cello. I will always prefer my standalone mics and interface going into Logic but the zoom was quite impressive. If you want a cheap, no frills approach with little editig the zoom or another handheld is the way to go

Portable are great, work vey well. I have the Zoom H4n - like it both as a standalone, and it also works as a digital interface with phantom power for external mics for my Mac and my iPad as well. Very flexible -
