New CA Legacy
Well, I finally purchased a CA Vintage Legacy. I was lucky to find a local CA dealer having a pre-Peavy, NOS (New Old Stock) CA Vintage Legacy. Guitar is amazing! It has a lot of volume and great sustain. CA really hit it out of the park with this one. Sounds like a vintage Martin or Gibson. I am officially ready to take on this Chicago winter!
The guitar has a stock Micarta saddle and nut. For all CA owners out there, did you guys change out the saddle and nut to bone? If so, did you guys notice a dramatic change in tone much like the switch on a wooden guitar? Last edited by FuzzFriendly; 04-19-2013 at 11:45 AM. |

I have found the CA knew what they were doing with saddles and I always took them back to original after I screwed around with them. Bone in a carbon to me made no sense and to me CA's need to be brightened ususally so bone to me makes no sense.

I tried bone in mine and didn't really notice a difference. I put the original Tusq back in and am pleased with the sound.

Thanks for the replies, guys! Is Peavy still honoring the pre-Peavy CA warranty? I need to register the guitar.
Do you have any pics of your CA Legacy - TOB, Doubleneck? Last edited by FuzzFriendly; 01-18-2012 at 10:46 PM. |

Congratulations on the new Legacy!
I own a Legacy Bluegrass model and was lucky enough to get this one for a steal a few years ago. Mine also has the Fishman Aura system and it KILLS plugged in. I've never heard anything sound any better plugged in. Acoustically it hangs with any of the Best wooden guitars I own and I'd put it up against anything out there. I have got to play a few of the Peavey Cargos and I have played the Pre-ones as well. Not to worry as I think Peavey is really trying to do this guitar right. I hope they are around for a long time and get into a lot more players hands. I love a nice guitar no matter what it’s made of and I believe that these will go down is guitar history.

Interestling this shows my experiment taking the black saddle that came with the guitar and changing it to tusq. I have since gone back to the original black one's they used. In fact I got some more of them and keep the original as a reference and sanded the others down to a very low action 5/64. Very few TB Legacies were made, this was a custom order from LA Guitars about 6 months before CA closed. It is vintage voiced as well. My main guitar and your are right amplified their is no equal. I never understood why all the attention was paid to their other offerings? Congrats on your find.

Gorgeous guitar!! Congrats on a wonderful find! I am glad I am not the only one who believes that some of these CF guitars truly sound like a Martin or Gibson.
I have to say, although I am a hardcore Rainsong fan, I am excited to see what Peavey will have at NAMM. I remember playing Kramsters OX and loving it. And I have to say, my second favorite guitar to the Shorty is the Cargo RT. Really mellow warm sound.

I also have a Vintage Performer and it is indeed a great guitar. Mine was one of the first that came off their new production line in 2006.
I've stuck with the stock saddle and nut, so can't help you out there. I am curious as to when Peavey will add the Legacy to their CA lineup. In my opinion, it is the guitar most likely to attract someone who wants a guitar that sounds and looks like a regular guitar, but doesn't have issues with environmental conditions. |

I am sure they are adding guitars in relation to sales. Cargo I am sure was their biggest seller it was their entry level travel guitar that got a cult following. The GX more modern. Legacy is for us old traditional dred people. They will eventually get to us. Actually could car less I already got mine. kind of like the Pre-Peavey thing.

For maintanence and cleaning, what do you guys recommend best? I know MacNichol guitars sells a kit specifically for carbon fiber guitars, containing a scratch remover, removable pickguards etc. Let me know what you guys think.

I have the removable pickguard on the front and a large buckle rash guard on the back. Can take them off any time I want. Get product for a shiny guitar.

Thanks for the reply. I had a bottle of Simply Z-Best Z-Extreme Detailer lying around and I used that on the CA. All I can say is, 'Wow!’ The guitar is so much smoother and just shimmers now. Can't believe how much a difference it made in the appearance and feel of the guitar. I might as well just stick with what I have and what works.
