Very nice, and a way cool approach on the rosette.
When I was visiting in Brazil, I asked our host about "guitar wood", and where to find some. Pretty sure my question wasn't making the leap into Portuguese, I pointed to a guitar side and asked my Q again. "Ah" he said, "Jacaranda!"
Which proves nothing definitively, but it left me with the feeling that Jacaranda is a generic or trade name for rosewood.

When I saw the pic of your set, "Indonesian rosewood" is what came to mind.
It is a striking set.

Really nice to see more of Joel's work here. Love the matchstick rosette on Doug's guitar and can't wait to see the next version of this. Looking good already - especially that Camatillo wood for the edges.

Hi Steve,
Native Portuguese speaker here - "Jacaranda" is indeed used as a generic reference for rosewood there. Brazilian rosewood is often referred to as "Jacaranda da Bahia" (Jacaranda from Bahia), Bahia being a coastal state in the Northeast with the tropical Atlantic rainforest where much of it grows or used to grow. Indian Rosewood, for example, is called "Jacaranda da India".

Thank you Steve. Me thinks its a cool approach too. Joel confirmed to me that he indeed sourced the wood from a seller in Indonesia. I've done some further research and I have concluded that Jacaranda is used loosely to describe rosewood.

Thanks. I'll take credit for expanding on Joel's idea for the matchsticks by adding the mop dots, but all props still go to Joel for the execution.

He told me that it reminds him of snakeskin. I can see it too, but it doesn't creep me out like a snake would.

Just a quick pic to show some progress. I've always liked Joel's rectangular fret markers, and we had some discussions about continuing the matchstick theme up the neck. I really appreciate Joel taking my zany ideas, refining them, and then executing. Not only is he a great luthier, but he is a great person and friend. This is the start of the fret marker process...

Thanks Luca. Indeed he does. I'm obviously a fan of Joel's. He brings a lot of creativity and imagination with every guitar he builds.

Well, I don't know how I could have missed looking at this thread, but I'll be looking at it really often from now on. This is a really cool guitar with some SWEET design elements.

I've never owned a baritone guitar, but from the looks of this one and your comments, I'm thinking about adding one to my collection

Very unique design theme. It looks great and the fret markers should tie it all together nicely. The pearl dots put the rosette over the top, just the right amount of bling for those rims.
