Default Nick Lucas Builder Recommendation?

Hi, if I was looking for a Nick Lucas small, deep-bodied, 13 fret guitar what builder would you recommend? There seem to be a lot of choices, but that can be a good and bad thing. Can't drop $25K or something crazy like that, but something that is quality and has time/thought put into it.

Vague, but always been a Bob Dylan fan, and enjoy smaller sized bodies even for strumming. Smaller sound, but intimate.

Thanks!

My #2 is a Maple/Lutz, 13 fret Gibson Nick Lucas, its amazing. I also finished up a 1937 spec D-18 a week later. We have a monthly luthier's meeting at the Woodcraft in Knoxville and I've heard both guitars being played simultaneously. And the Nick hangs in there.

I'm a hobby builder at the moment not taking any commissions but any of the usual suspects could do a great guitar. Good luck

I would highly recommend John Greven in Portland, OR. He specializes in recreations of vintage Martins and Gibsons. At last years Healdsburg Guitar Festival I had the opportunity to play John's personal 1930-something Gibson L-00 as well as his brand new Nick Lucas recreation. He prefers the 13-fret version. Both were marvelous guitars. He's also a great guy to work with, has 50 years of experience (so he's at the top of his game), and has very reasonable prices for the quality of work he does. I speak from experience as I am thoroughly enjoying the custom OOO he built for me last year. Check out his website: http://www.grevenguitars.com/.

Tim McKnight's Skeeter model, a replication of a 1926 Lucas. I'm saying this not simply because of the model but because of the luthier; Tim builds top-notch guitars, and you've only to spend a little time on this site to hear plenty of testimony to that statement. When I play Tim's Skeeter model, I'm astounded by the amount of sound that small body produces.

Smile Nick Lucas

For the Nick Lucas model, I would seriously consider Marc Beneteau. I think Marc makes the best guitars for the money (he is very affordable) and is one of the nicest guys I have met.

Chris Bozung builds a great Nick Lucas model. Here's a video and sound sample:

We offer a NL-00 in a variety of woods and options. We've made quite a few of them, I really like the design.

Although your budget may not allow it, have a look at Greenfield's g3. Lovely little guitar.

Personally I would get a custom shop Gibson if I wanted a Nick Lucas replica -- but otherwise I echo others in suggesting John Greven.

Marc Beneteau has a Nick Lucas model. I haven't tried one but have one on order. I have had lots of Marc's guitars, all fantastic.
