Just a friendly tip. If you use Google Chrome as a browser, right click any image and click "Search Google for image". It'll try to give more info related to any image to help find names of watches (in this case), guitars, or whatever.

I bought it for $75 new by the way... he, he.

Another line for you to consider would be Seiko's '5' range - inexpensive self-winders in a variety of styles, including diver's.

I've got four of these, in different colours - at less than $60 a pop. They have exhibition backs, too, to amaze your friends who think all watches run on batteries.

That's pretty much the funniest thing I've read all day.

They say mechanical/automatic watches should be serviced every so often. I've owned countless watches and, with the exception of my grandfather's old Fortis, I've never serviced any of them. When I bought my Oris Williams F1 back in 2006, I was told I should have it serviced every three years. Service on it is about $350.00.

It's been crankin' along just fine for the last ten years without a problem. I look at it this way: Had I had it serviced every three years, I'd have spent over $1,000.00 on service. If it stops running at some point, I can't imagine the repair would be over $1,000.00. And, if it is, I only paid $1,100.00 for the watch, so I'd probably just get another.

They're certainly not bad for the money.

But they're definitely a budget brand (despite some of their list prices). As such, sometimes things do go wrong.

While I've never dealt with them myself, my understanding is that Joseph Stalin had a better customer service reputation than Invicta.

There are several automatics here under $150. Heard good things about that site, but have never purchased from them.

Thanks for the link Todd. That's a great website for watches, they link every major brand there and you can surf your freaking brains out! I bookmarked it, gonna have some fun with that one. Major time thief however. Pun intended.

There customer service might be bad, but I have 2 fairly cheap Invictas, a automatic and a quartz, and I have had zero problems. I've had the automatic for about 5 years and the quartz for about 2 years.

Yeah, I've owned several Invictas and have never had a problem, either.

Here's one I have that's interesting. Its a Gruen Day/Date from the late 30's or early 40's. My father wore it while in France in WWII.

It has an 18K gold casing. The last jeweler who cleaned it said the works are Swiss, probably Rolex. Nice trim design.

I bet that piece is worth a lot of money isn't it?

I don't know, never had it appraised. Every jeweler that has seen it wanted to buy it though.

This was my 18th birthday gift from my parents, 42 years ago. Clearly well-worn, and in need of a bit of a clean, but still one of my most treasured possessions. As far as I can recall, it has never been serviced in any way.
