Mini Review - Zoom G1Xon
So, the pedal arrived late last Friday. I'm having a lot of fun with it and the pros are many while the cons for this unit are few.
Cons: 1) 90% of the loaded presets absolutely suck. I think someone was tripping on something when they loaded these presets. Weird space-shippy sounds and tons of metal tones, which I don't use. I will probably keep a couple to get my mullet on, but the rest will go. 2) TOO many presets IMO. Pros: 1) Relatively quick learning curve 2) seems fairly sturdy 3) The effects are pretty good 4) Many of the amp models are quite good So my main thing was I wanted reverb, tremelo, and a couple of OD's - the Wah pedal was the icing on the cake. I wasn't really concerned with the amp modelling, but turns out I kinda like that feature too. The Laney Cub 10 isn't a bad sounding amp alone, but kinda has a dark voicing, which I ain't crazy about. Change it to a Deluxe Reverb and bam, huge tone change. Really brings it to life. It has an acoustic simulator too, which isn't bad at all - I just need to tweak some of the parameters for my taste. I have no idea about durability, but I like it enough that I may purchase the extended warranty, something i never do. Overall, maybe the best 70 bucks I ever spent on a piece of gear.
