Hmmmm....Price out a Suhr versus a Fender CS and the Suhr will be cheaper.

I can't believe some of the negative comments here, about the location of knobs, the grittiness of knobs, the lack of perfection to your own individual standards, but not a single mention about tone, sound, playability. These are guitars.

I was only talking US production models. You can certainly buy a fender for as much as a suhr... But I never would.

I wasn't aware that the OP set a price limit on his request for input on "other-than-Fender" brands.

The Suhr Pro series are sweet, for sure. The Alt T Pro is on my short list. But I'm a sucker for nitro and I like Suhr's light antiquing aesthetics, so I've ended up with the 2 Classic Antiques pictured above.

One of Suhr's endorsed artists is Mateus Asato. He got me turned on to the Suhr line initially. Mateus has got to be one of the most musical, melodic guitar players I've ever heard.

Shecter. Love mine! Also have a 6 year old LP mahogany that oozes tone. Invader in the bridge, burstbucker in the neck. GOsh it sounds thick!!!!

Instead of Gibson for ES-335 and Les Paul style guitars, I've settled on Heritage. They're hand built in the old Gibson Kalamazoo factory, using some of the same tooling and methods as the classic 50's and 60's vintage guitars. I've played some great Gibsons and some that just felt cheap. The best tended to be very expensive Custom Shop models. On the other hand, Heritages were comparable in quality and feel to the Gibby Custom Shop guitars at much lower prices than their standard offerings. It's my experience that you can get some great stuff if you're not too concerned about brand names. |

Never liked Tellies of any flavor, but I like that one, even though it still has a strong Tellie vibe to it. Nice.

While I keep coming back to Fender, there are some great alternatives. I love the giant clean clang of Gretsch guitars, really like vintage toaster-top Rickys, and Ibanez is an excellent alternative for a lot less semolians...big fan of their Artist series guitars, especially the late 70s. PRS is a nice cross between Gibson & Fender attributes.
Gibson, I'm not so much into; I had a really great 1957 Les Paul Special that had it all...until it was stolen (worth about $12k now, wherever it is)...I haven't really bonded with a Gibson since then, for some reason.
