He may well be ill, and when illness strikes, it's easy to be unaware of the passage of time as you're dealing with the basics of living. I took a look at his website, and there's no indication that he has ceased taking orders. I would suggest the following.

1 Call him.

2 Assuming that you are able to confirm that he is not in a strong enough financial position to return your money, perhaps he has a used guitar that he has made, that he would send to you, given he is unable to build your guitar, or provide your deposit back. He certainly seems to have built enough guitars in his day, and they sure do look lovely.

3 Let him know that you've sought advice on different guitar forums. He may want a positive resolution posted on these forums if he believes he can build again. This may motivate him. Even send him the link.
