Default Volume loss on tone control

When I turn down the tone on my Seymour Duncan SSL6 pickup I loose tons of volume. I installed a .022capacitor just for that bridge pickup on my Partscaster.

Losing volume is bad enough.

Loosing volume is even worse.

If your guitar has only one pickup, one volume control and one tone control this is how the wiring should look:

If it's a Strat with two singles, one humbucker, one volume and two tone controls it should look like this:

I did a dual capacitor wiring on my strat, the values really are .047 and .022 bridge

Compare the way your guitar is actually wired with this:

Check out this article:

Is that what you're after?

I wired it so the neck and middle share a tone, and the bridge gets its own tone control. I got the wiring from Breja Toneworks on Youtube at

That looks good but now the question is, is that the way you actually wired it up?

Exactly!

Gonna have to go through your guitar, Bob, and compare each and every connection to the diagram until you find out where you went wrong.

It's there.

Just gotta find it.

I'm wondering if you have a new style, sealed 5 way switch with all of the terminals running in a row? One sort of like this:

The diagram shows an old style CRL made switch. One more like this:

I like these old style switches better.

Much easier to see what's going on with those old style CRL made switches.

An aggressive tone filter will naturally cause a loss in volume at higher frequencies. If the tone pot is behaving more like a volume control you have a different problem entirely.

Installed a new Fender 5 way switch and new CTS pots when I rewired everything. Are there pots just for volume and pots just for tone? I will re-examine my wiring and see if its right. By the way, those Rose pickups are fantastic, installed a Robusta in the neck position and man does she have some bluesy mojo, thanks to the forums suggestion.

No. The pots are same. Evidently you have something wired incorrectly. Quite possibly at the switch. That switch is TWO switches with one complete switch on each side, One side selects the pickups and the other side connects the tone controls. Study that switch until you can clearly understand how it works.

Check the values on the caps. Higher cap values produce more loss of volume because more of the high frequencies are filtered out by the tone pot.
