SJ non cut-away Brazilian Rosewood back and sides Cedar top Brazilian and Paua shell rosette Brazilian binding and end wedge Paua shell top edge, back center strip, and end wedge borders Ebony fingerboard with WBW purfling Ryan style 12th fret inlay on fingerboard Ebony peghead front with Paua infilled "O" logo Brazilian Rosewood peghead back veneer with ebony binding and WBW purfling Gold tuners with ebony buttons and "O" logo Calton "deluxe" flight case I had a chance to select my Brazilian set from a number of options Jim presented to me; the one I selected is shown below. I'm very excited about this guitar - my first Olson. I'll periodically post pics as I receive them from Jim.

Awesome, looking forward to this thread. We should trade notes when your BRW Olson is done--I'm very curious as to how my Heinonen HRW will compare! (though yours has more paua, wish I had the funds set aside for that sort of treatment)

Congrats! Jim has some of the nicest sets of Brazilian rosewood. It is so hard to find wood that nice. The sides match the back perfectly, which is not always the case with a lot of BRW guitars.
Good luck. I will be watching this build for sure.

I'm excited to follow this post, Stevied.
May I ask how you got him to build you one this year? I contacted him a few years ago and he said that he was already booked for the year. Did you have to wait long to get on The List? |

Probably means get to him end of this year for the 2018 build year to be safe.

I reached out to him in January, and he said he could fit me in this year. He's only doing 25 this year - not sure if that's because he raised his prices (and demand dropped), or he self-limited - I suspect the latter based on a few comments he made. He now spends the winters in AZ and returns to MN in May - my guess is he won't be doing this too much longer, but that's only a guess (he didn't say anything to me about retiring). You should contact him directly and ask if you can get on the list for next year - he answers emails pretty quickly.
