Eastman E10D neck profile

Still thinking about a E10D. Can anyone give me a idea of the neck profile? I like a chunkier neck. I had an OM-28V at one time and loved the neck but couldn't use a capo above the 4th fret so it got sold. I have a finger style guitar and looking for a dread.

I have an E 20 D. The neck is very playable and unfortunately all I can tell you is it isn't "chunky". It's probably more like a so-called "modern" neck, not as slender as a some Taylors, jut a real good 'tweener. The nut is supposed to be 1 3/4". I measured mine at 1/32" under that which seems to be about where most Eastmans are. If you like chunky, you won't find it on these.
Personally, on a dread, chunky would not be good in my book. Martins are said to be 1 - 11/16's and the profile is probably a little chunkier, but not much.

I've owned an E6D, E10D, and currently own an E8D. Each one had a different neck profile, from slim to chunky. They are all supposed to have a 1 3/4" nut. The E6D was 1 11/16". The E10 was 1 3/4". My current E8D has almost a 1 13/16" nut and one of the beefiest necks I've come across on a dread, which I love.

Basically, because they are hand made, the neck profile will vary quite a bit.

That is true. Everybody likes what they like.

from my experience Recording Kings and Blueridges with an advertised 1 3/4
nut width have much more of a chunky neck
than any Eastman I have owned

calipers will be the " last word "

Fantastic choice, the E10D! I have an E20D and owned two E10D's and an E10SS. The necks are a modern, kind of D shape, certainly deeper than all Taylors and the two Gibson J15's I recently played. I wouldn't call them chunky, but I wouldn't call them thin either, similar profile to current iteration of the D18.

All three dreads have 1 3/4" nuts. The sloper is 1 23/32. The neck profiles are quite similar, but have the expected "carved by human hands" variability.

And I certainly miss those E10D's and the E10SS.

no eastman neck i've owned (e6d, e60m, e10ss, ac320, ac420, ac322) would i consider "chunky". they have all been in the medium c shape profile, by my recollection. i don't like really skinny necks, nor do i like baseball bats. they were/are somewhat nestled in the middle of those.

I suppose I'd say the Eastman E Series has a shallow D profile more than a C. To me, the J45 and BR140/160A have true C profiles. Semantics aside, they are comfortable necks and do, indeed, fall in the middle of the profile spectrum.

Eastman specs are pretty unreliable. I found out the hard way when I bought my gorgeous and great sounding AC812 OM used thinking it was a 1 3/4 inch nut when it was a bit narrower. I couldn't tell at first, but after a while, I began to notice I was muffling strings on chords that gave me no issue on other guitars with 1 3/4 inch nut. It was pretty disappointing and if it had been a new guitar I would have returned it.

Even thought they are handmade, the nut width shouldn't have been so inconsistent which are from 1 11/16 to close 1 13/16, a big difference from what they are supposed to be.

p.s. But "good news" is, I could have more nut width choice!

I just came home with a E10 D I have to tell you these guitars will completely
exceed your expectations regardless of price.
the neck on mine is a bit chunky, but not baseball bat chunky, the tone is its own thing, deep radiant bass without being too too, excellent responsiveness to the Adi top< this guitar is used but still not opened up. a bit of woodshedding will take of that.the fit and finish is beautiful as are the matched mahogany back and sides. this thingis a beast, ;oud but articulate, picked mine up for $700 used.
my question to other E10 owners is what strings bring these to life ?? i do a lot of drop tuning fingerstyle and of course strumming and flat pcking>
ive heard the Tony Rice strings are great, but how about for drop tunings and fingerstyle ??

Well congrats and I'm jealous. You have in your possession a great guitar.
Pop some of those Tony Rice Signatures on there and hold on to something.

In drop D your teeth will vibrate.
As you can tell, I'm a fan. I have the Monels on two Spruce/Hogs.
Seriously, it depends on what you are looking for in the way of tone.
The Monels will be very powerful and they will give you the loudest Dread in any room without losing the nice ring. They will also help you break in that Adi top quicker.
If you feel you already have that and don't want more, try some "Straight Ups" or DR Sunbeams. Both will give you sweetness and sustain. Any of those three are easy to play as well.

Dutch,Eastie necks are good in a modern D/C sense not to skinny, not to chunky - they feel properly thought out musical instruments not a generic set of measurements like some brands.

Congratulations on your new E10D!

Like Jamie said, the Martin Monel Retro TR's are a great choice for an E10D. I used them on mine. They tend to produce a very woody tone. I feel they sit in that pocket right where strings sound best, just before they go bad. The Monels also last forever. I usually need to change phosphor bronze strings about once a month. The Monels last more like three months for me.
