The very "right" looking cutaway I drew for this guitar would have compromised the braces integrity if I hadn't moved one end. The bass side end is where it would normally be.

Top n' Sides
The fact that Bruce has signed the inside of the top indicates he has completed his voicing of the German Spruce top. It looks like a BRW bridge plate (Bruce has corrected that it is Yucatan Rosewood) is accompanying the Adirondack Spruce bracing (left). Bruce has profiled the the flitch matched, quartersawn BRW sides (right) somewhat thicker in the body than typical of his work, just shy of about .080”. The cutaway portion is a pretty even .062" thick to allow for easier bending.

That there's my typical D. tucurensis bridge plate, but yes, it's pretty dark stuff and many is the pro who who has taken it for Brazilian. It is far lighter than BRW, and entirely up to the job. A few grams in the middle of the top is a big deal!

I have bent the "easy" side today. It fit braggaby well IMO, right out of the bender, apparently needing no further tweaking on the hot pipe (as they often do) AND virtually no clean-up as well. Of course, Now I have to do the hard one.

+1!!! I've always admired how Bruce combines the Spanish tradition of face down solera building with the Germanic tradition of separate neck/body construction joined with a dovetail. Best of both worlds.

Sides n' Peone
The BRW sides are now bent and instead of using kerfed Honduran mahogany or Spanish cedar linings, Bruce HHG's in individual spruce peone (tentalones) where he can control and vary their spacing to create his top linings. You can see how the sides are modestly constrained while they are attached to the top without the use of a mold.

112 Peone
The BRW sides have been adhered to the German spruce top using 112 individual spruce peone (tentalones) hot hide glued in place instead of using traditional kerfed Honduran Mahogany or Spanish Cedar linings (which he uses to attach the back to the rims).

The box is closed
Bruce added a 5/16" Manzer Wedge to the rims, installed kerfed Spanish Cedar linings, a spruce reinforcement strip and the maker's label and closed the box today. Both the top and body woods are looking fantastic...

Top Binding and Purflings
Bruce completed the top perimeter binding today. It is a very traditional Style 42 type binding but instead of using Ivoroid, we chose a Cocobolo sapwood. Bruce is waiting to get the neck made and fitted to the body before executing the Abalone top purfling around the fingerboard to ensure alignment. I think the shape anf proportion of the Venetian cutaway came out very well...
Other subtle deviations from the traditions of Nazareth Style 42 can be seen in the rosette as well. Instead of framing the abalone ring with Ivoroid, Bruce used some maple purflings. I will be interested to see how these transform under oil varnish. You can also see the black/maple/black side purflings framing the Cocobolo sapwood binding and BRW rims in this close up of where the end graft will soon be.
