Gorgeous Santana Yellow 10-top on it, pattern neck with a 25" scale feels fantastic. Very versatile and extremely high quality ax!

I should think those S2s would be great deal on a USA PRS. The guy is very much a stickler as to quality on all his products.
When you mentioned narrowfield, are you talking about pickups that look like this? Is this similiar to the configuration you have? (source: premier guitar):

Yep...the picture you posted is a 'Studio'. Very versatile guitar and plays like a dream. They have discontinued them, but I still see used ones on Reverb. One nice thing about used PRSs...their owners took really good care of them as a general rule.

edit: And incidentally, yes those are the pickups that PRS calls 'narrowfield' humbuckers.

Thanks for the info, Max. I had never heard the term "narrowfield' before so I googled a studio pic and that's what I found.

How do you like the 57/08 pickups in 'normal' mode (just the bridge or just the neck in full humbucker mode)? I've read great things about them and there are many PRS users who think they're the best, or one of the best pickups that PRS makes.

They really are stellar, Dru. They're very much like the best of vintage Gibson pickups, but with something more...a bit more sheen to them...maybe just the fact that they're new and not 60 years old.

If it wasn't already addressed, the 57/08 moniker derives from a purchase PRS made...they acquired winding machine(s?) from an old Gibson warehouse, along with spools of NOS pickup wire. So 57/ is the year of the NOS wire they used and /'08 is the year the pickup was wound. BTW, all these pups are 57/08 but only the full sized one is etched to indicate this.

The neck 'bucker has a really warm crisp tone and with bridge or neck combined with the middle pickup, gets close to that position 2 and 4 strat-quack tone, but with an added buttery texture. They really do approximate a blend of strat-like tone with a PAF or Pearly Gates type fullness.

The bridge by itself flat screams...really, the best sounding (though not necessarily the highest output) bridge humbucker I've ever heard, and the beauty is, when its in tapped/single coil mode, it loses zero level...doesn't thin out at all, just out-Fenders the Fenders...I *WISH* the bridge pup on any of my Fenders sounded like this (which is why you see these replaced so often).

Hey Max, I understand that 57/08 pickups indicate the info you mentioned (vintage year + year it was produced). So, 2008 was the first year the 57/08 pickups were manufactured. I thought I had read somewhere that the early 57/08 pickups (i.e. 2008) didn't have the etching on the pickup cover. Do you know if there's a sticker or etching underneath the pickup with the model number?

I haven't a clue as to whether or not there is any other indication of which model is on a given guitar, beyond what may be found in PRS literature. I don't really dig in 'under the hood' on any of my gear unless I absolutely have to, so I've never had any of them apart.

I bet you'd find out a lot if you just googled 'PRS 57/08'.

Wow! Another beauty. I can't tell from the pic, is the tailpiece gold colored?

I've got an SE, which was a limited run with a spalted top. Modified it with different pickups and a Piezo. Really sweet. If you've got a big budget (big for me, at least) the 594 is getting amazing press.
